The 3 trucks that I remember him putting toppers on all looked as good as a truck can look with a topper. But I thought they all looked better before he added the toppers. But you know what they say about opinions.

Um, maybe call it a topper or shell if that makes you feel better.

I have a Leer XQ100 on my Frontier and enjoy the secure storage, ideal for daily chores and especially for camping gear when towing my travel trailer. Yes, there's a passenger side blind spot which I adapted to. IMO, the convenience tradeoff is well worth that issue. Be aware though that if you have an aftermarket cat-back system which drones slightly, one of these tends to trap resonance frequencies underneath and transit that inside the cab. I had one on this truck briefly several years ago before reinstalling the OEM system.

I'll be ordering another (Leer or SnugTop) for my new truck soon.
OK, truth - I am an old man...

He does have a way with his trucks, no doubt!

Caps are really functional if you use your truck as your vacation/family travel vehicle which it sounds like you do towing your camper. The only thing it restricts is cargo height if you every have to move large objects like appliances. Any increase in aerodynamics will be offset by the 160+lbs of the cap. My dad has an ARE Z series cap and it is the nicest one IMO.

Toppers are nice to keep tools dry and safe, nice to haul the dogs in the bed without them getting on the seats, many good reasons to have one and being old has nothing to do with it.
Seen someone say just get a suv but the topper will pop right off easy if you need to use the bed in a different manor and have you ever haul gas, dirt or sand in a suv ?
It means you're old enough to own trailers to tow anything you once put in the back of your truck.

I went the opposite direction. First 2 trucks had hard caps. Then the next one had a hard tonneau. Now I have a soft tonneau and will probably never go back. By the end of the second hard cap, I was frustrated in how it limited what and when I could haul things. Great storage, but as a friend once asked me, "why didn't you just buy a van"? They do have a lot of advantages, as long as they fit your needs.
