If you did it all over again?...
Just as a discussion piece if you had it all over to do again would you buy what you have or wished you had either waited for what you wanted, bought the truck with all the extra's you really wanted or did what you did.
I understand the modular budget, but really curious. I bought a Harley truck because of the statement about me. Did not want to piece it together but enjoy all the options as I paid for it. I lost my leg in a harley accident (above knee) and its just something I wanted to do since I could not ride anymore. And no, I did not get a check, I was hit by an uninsured lady talking on a cell phone.
So would you do it again?

Meaner than ymeski56
I bought my 2009 XLT used this past February. Got a great deal from a great dealership. Lo and behold about 2 weeks later I was surfing the internet looking at pickups for a friend and found a 2009 Lariat with similar miles and similar configuration (SCab 6.5' bed 4x4 but with max tow) as mine for about 2k more. Do I wish I would've waited, maybe. Would I go back and change it, probably not. I do wish it had less miles on it but I knew that going in. I eventually put Katzkin leather in mine and it suits all my needs perfectly. Still turns lots of heads driving down the road

Retired and loving it!
To the OP...well stated as to why you bought the truck you did! For me, I "liked" our 2010 5.4 XLT, but found after 31,000 miles that I loved looking at the Lariats with their console shifting, leather cooled and heated seats, back up camera...the list goes on and on.
We debated adding a real luxury car ( i.e. Cadillac CTS V) with our truck, but ended up deciding to combine our truck and luxury car into one vehicle.
There is not a thing I'd change about our new Lariat Plus....other than having bought one in the first place two years ago.....

I did do it all over again and went from a 2010 4x4 XLT Screw fully equipped with a 4.6 3v to a 2011 identically equipped with the Ecoboost.
My wife and I (ok, it was all my wife's fault ..... seriously, it was!) bought a travel trailer a year after I bought the 2010. I stayed within the weight limits of the 2010 but the 4.6 3v just could not get out of it's own way, thus the trade-in to the Ecoboost.
I did try to stay with the same color (Sterling Gray) but at the end of the day I decided to go Blue Flame and add some color to my life.
No regrets whatsoever. Now if we had to talk about wants over needs, King Ranch all day but I just can't consciously do that at this time with kids and a mortgage.

If I did it all over, I probably would go with an FX2 instead of my Platinum 4x4. I haven't used 4 wheel drive once in the few months that I've owned it other than to make sure it works and with the Luxury Package in the FX series, you pretty much get everything the Platinum has (heated/cooled seats, dual zone climate control, etc.). So to me, I could have saved some money and got the FX package instead and still be happy.

I think I would have purchased the 5.0 instead of 3.7. MPG of the 3.7 is very good, but I now realize owning a 5.0 wouldn't cost that much more on gas. Also I would wait for a 2013 model. I was a little impatient buying my 2011 as I needed a vehicle right away. But other than that, everything else would be the same.

Only thing I would change would be not agonizing over the purchase for so long. Since the primary purpose of our truck is as a family hauler we also considered the 2013 Escape. I'm the wife and I went back and forth for well over a month between the two, driving my husband and the car dealer both crazy in the process. Now that we have the truck I know beyond any doubt that it was the better choice.

wait. what?
I would have looked around better because there were better deals to be had, but I was set on mine because it was insanely clean. it's a 2010 King Ranch 4x4 5.4L with 3.55LS, short bed, nav/moonroof, tailgate step and 20's and I paid $36k for it 4 months ago with 28k on it. not a few days later I found the same exact truck with 2000 less miles for $33,500. I've seen a few others with slightly higher mileage even cheaper still and a few used 2011+ KR's for just a bit more than a paid for mine.
but like I said I loved the truck for the condition it was in, I've put 15000 trouble free miles on it already and I plan to put many more on it. my next truck will more than likely be a '13 King Ranch long bed with the black interior and monochrome paint.
