If the EB Is So Good...Why Is It Not In The F-250, 350, 450??
There has been so much trash talked on this site about how the Eco-boost package is the best thing Ford has produced in quite some time (I actually agree with that) and it's ability to get Honda like MPG's with space shuttle type power (I don't agree with that)
Well....Since the 6.2lt is the base engine in the Super-Duty Series and the EB community is always saying look at the numbers relative to Torque and HP, then why is it not the base engine in the F-250's, 350's, and 450's? It stacks up to the 6.2? You make all your torque and power much lower in the RPM band 1800-2500 - Vs- 4000-4500.
By all the EB community talk, it would make even these vehicle, unloaded, be much more fuel effecient.
Torque is Torque...HP is HP...Why it is not in the Superduties? There should be no reason you can't pull 15,800lbs, with no issues, all day long...in the Mountains......... Just asking... Crickets....Crickets....
The EB community always says they should put it in the Raptor end get rid of the old dinosaur 6.2...Is the better place for the EB in a new generation Lightning?
Bring it...

My buddy has an Eco-Boost. It does have awesome power and fuel mileage. But when he tows with it, it tows like a V6. High Rpms and low MPG's. When it comes to towing there is no replacement for displacement. I think in the Heavier 3/4 and 1 ton the engine would not get great numbers. Those trucks are directed to people who haul heavy loads all week long not weekend toys.
An EB Lightning would be awesome. I'm sure Ford could tune even more power out of them.

My EB sucks gas when its towing, but it pulls strong. I had an 03 F250 with the V10, and that EB would pull right with it. I really believe the EB will pull more than the 150 can hold. I've told people I think it should be offered in the 250. But Ford is wierd with their gas engines. For the longest, they pushed the 5.4 in the SD's while the v10 was a much more powerful option for just $600. Then they kill the V10 in the 250's and 350's for the less powerful 6.2? SO to say the EB isnt all that because its not in the SD's is a weak argument.

Think of it this way. They have to prove to the market that it is a capable engine (put it in a 1/2 ton first)
Then once that is done they can redesign engine mounts, engine to transmission, shift patterns etc, etc so it will work in a HD (costs money and r&d time). Maybe even adjust the tuning so it comes a bit closer in power to the 6.2. Don't forget that the gearing in the HD is different than the 1/2's so that should help with overall mileage and power output as well.
As far as mpg goes, towing 20000 lbs is going to affect the 6.2 just as much as the EB.
However, what people are starting to look at is getting better mpg when NOT towing to make up for the difference.
If you get 7 mpg towing in the 6.2 or EB but can get 18 mpg in the EB empty as opposed to 14 or 16 in the 6.2, especially if gas is going to hit the roof, then why wouldn't people want that option?
Give it time, I think we'll see the option soon.
