I wired my puddle lights in today - easy job
My '09 XLT scab didn't come with puddle lights so today I took a couple hours and ran the wires for them. The toughest part was getting the door panel lined up to go back on.
1. Took passenger door panel off
2.Uunplugged the mirror and used my test light to confirm that it is the purple wire that gets juice with the interior door light when unlocked with the key fob. I then also conformed the black wire is the ground.
3. Unbolted the mirror, took the plastic piece off the bottom of the arm. Removed the puddle light filler piece and then ran a positive and negative wire from the puddle light hole to the end of the mirror where it bolts to the truck.
4. Put the two wires through the hole in the door / window post where the mirror bolts on and then re-bolted the mirror in place.
5. Peeled back the tape on the mirror electrical plug inside the door and used quick splice connectors to hook the positive wire I ran to the purple and the negative wire to the black ground. I zip tied it up and put some electrical tape back on.
6. Put the door panel back on and fastened it back down.
7. Put the bottom plastic arm cap back on the mirror.
8. I tested the leads that I just ran from the bottom of the mirror. I had a spare LED post type bulb and it came on with the key fob unlock and went out with the dome lights on the timer.
9. I taped up the wires and tucked em into the puddle light hole and replaced the hole filler cap. I just need to crimp on some end plugs when I get my puddle lights.
10. I then did the drivers side. It took only 30 minutes while drinking a beer. I used the same wires and didn't have to trace them down. I fought with the damn door panel again in getting the locking plunger lined up and then put it all back together.
Sorry I didn't take pictures. This was an easy job though and while I can do these type projects, I am just not really skilled at them. It took me longer to find my tools and round up the materials. Probably took me 2.5 hours total.

Sorry, I need you to clarify what you are using as the actual puddle light if your truck did not come with any. I have run my wiring thru the mirror, just debating which aftermarket puddle light to order. thx

can't speak for the OP but my 14 STX was prewired. I put on power folding mirrors and everything works on them with OEM wiring. The only thing I had to physically run wire for was the power fold option and that was only 2 wires.

Incorrect, the truck is wired for the. The mirror isnt. You only need to run + & -, from the new puddle lamp to the connector on the door. I grounded my - wire to the mirrors rear facing blinker wire, then ran my positive to the purple wire on the door side connector.

Replace the black filler piece with the puddle lamp housing. Pops into place.

What did you pay for the OEM puddle lamp housing, the link that I see in that thread shows they are $24 each + Leds, gets costly.
