Default I want to reduce my tire pressure. PERMANENTLY!

Hi folks.

I own a 2012 XL regular cab 4x4. I've always hated how harsh the ride is in my truck. From the factory my tire pressures are 55 psi front with 60 psi rear. I know I can just air down but that sets the TPMS off.

The truck came with BFG Rugged Trail tires from the factory. They are getting worn out now so I've been looking at replacements. I want to make sure the tires I buy won't need to be run at such a high tire pressure. Does anyone know if the tire shop will reduce my TPMS settings if I go with a tire that doesn't call for such high pressures to be run?

the sticker in the door jam says to air the tires to 55 and 60 on a 1/2 ton? That doesn't sound right.

My truck has the same condition. As built, from the factory assembly line, it came with load range E all terrains. The door jam sticker confirms this. A lot of heavier duty equipped F-150's out there were set up this way and they indeed ride a bit on the harsh side.

To the OP, the tpms has to be handled through the Ford IDS software at the dealer, or possibly the Forscan tool can make it work. I believe they can be adjusted to set off the indicator light in 5 psi increments.

A typical tire place can only make a vehicle "learn" the sensors, but they can't change the set points.

Any competent repair shop should be able to do this for you in just a few minutes, I know for a fact that my Autel scan tool can reset the factory placard settings in 1psi increments and I believe that the Shop's Snap-On scanner can do this as well. Almost every real shop has a Snap-On Modis or better scan tool, it's just a matter of finding one that knows how the use the tools they buy.

Where are you located? If you're near by I'll take care of the setting for you for free, it literally just takes a few minutes.

I'm betting both you guys have seven lug rims. You have the heavy duty payload package. That's why it came with e rated tires.

You may have an issue at a tire shop gettig them to put a non e rated tire on your truck. Some shops won't allow it.

One thug you can do is air down a bit. I run my e rated tires at 52psi unless I'm towing.

6 lugs (Raptor wheels) on mine. Must be one of the other payload packages, probably the one right below HD payload. There were multiple payload levels to pick from in the previous gen I think.

No.....normal 6 lug rims. It does have a 1900 lb payload however.....

Are there like "D" rated tires out there? "C" rated? I don't need heavy duty tires as the most I ever haul is my quad.....

Yes, there are D's, and a couple of C's out there in popular brands.

You can change the TPMS settings with Forscan.

The sensors don't like to see a difference of more than a couple of lbs. between tires. 5 psi is too much. If you want to do that much you will either need to set it using Forscan or get a tuner.
