Default I Need Some Advice for Towing

I currently have a 2002 F-250 V10 and it does great towing my 7200LB 28 foot camper (Coachman Catalina). However it's non towing gas millage sucks... I live in Western PA which makes a difference in driving.

So I'm thinking of a F-150 Super Crew with the v6 eco boost. Has anyone towed a trailer of that size with their eco-boost and in 95 degree weather. The one trip that pushed me to the Super Duty was with a 2011 Yukon and a 5.3l Vortec. The vehicle nearly over heated and I learned quickly that pulling a trailer and pulling a trailer with power to spare is a big difference. Climbing hills is a worry since they are all around me...

What is the expected gas millage pulling with an eco boost?

Do you slow down climbing hills or is my brother in law correct you just drop one gear and keep climbing? He did this in 40 degree weather and I'm not sure how it would be in 90 degree weather...

Any advice is much appreciated...

I pulled an 8000 lb trailer 120 miles over rolling terrain this weekend. I kept the cruise control on 60 for the interstate and got about 9.5mpg.

Yes. 7500# 30' in the hills of east tennessee into the smoky Mtns in August with high humidity.

9-11 mpg according to how you drive it and the terrain.

Drop a gear and go as fast as you want. I've pulled a 8% grade for five miles at a steady 55mph and about half throttle. Could have gone faster but no need to push it.

Any advice is much appreciated...[/QUOTE]

That helps knowing that the hills of the smokey mountains is no challenge... That is a popular destination for our family... the 9.5 MPG is realistic with a gas motor, but even with a diesel the economics are not a drop dead no brainier....

Any advice for the specs? I'm thinking 3.6; Eco boost and 3.73? also the heavy tow package?

Max tow at the least. You might even consider the heavy duty package. You run out of payload way before tow rating.

These trucks are spring pretty soft in the rear. I added bags to mine to level it back out in the rear. The HD package isn't as bad soft though.

Ecoboost, max tow (adds 3.73, tow mirrors, the HD receiver hitch, factory trailer brake controller, etc. You will love the factory tow mirrors.

Yep, Max Tow, definitely and possibly the HD payload package for 5th wheel. That was not available for my 2011, but as you can see by my sig, I added SuperSprings (easy install) to prevent sag.

I tow a 27' enclosed car hauler and have loaded it near 10,000 with a Harley f150 in it. The Eco did fine and managed near 9.5mpg. The wind will be your biggest noticeable difference in ride quality and feeling of ease. Anything with some surface area is going to push you around as the truck weighs ~6,000
