I'm not trying to defend Ford, but get your story straight before you talk to them. First you said your son wasn't back there, then you said he was back there.
Did the window shatter which then caused the short, or the other way around? Are these rear windows laminated so they don't come apart when they shatter, like a windshield? This will be good to know for when/if mine shatters.

Everybody should be reporting these incidents to the NHTSA so they can open an investigation, and maybe get a recall going. I have only used this feature once and on for a second.

Yeah but from what I have read this seems to be i. Issue wit the wiring and a lot of people are unhooking the defrost to not risk it. Especially if they have a remote start. If there is enough cases the NHTSA investigates and finds that people could and have gotten injured than they can force ford to make a recall, until than ford can importantly do whatever they want. The other option is get everybody together and start a law suit.

It shorted out first than shattered, It's happening more than we know, they are not all posted here, the dealership I go to is in a small town and they said they have replaced lots.
Is yours a one piece window? My son was back there when we smelled the initial burning along with it cracking, luckily I got him out before it went BANG.

I wouldn't care if I had to pay if the window just shattered but it caught fire and my son could have been back there.
It seems like it's a money issue with ford and not a safety issue.
This is happening a lot and needs to be addressed as a recall.
Does anyone know the names of the reps on here that help under situations like this?
One is Crystal I beleive.

Are you located in Canada, DBL Boost? If so, contact Nikki or Kwasi over at the FordServiceCA account with a description of the situation, as well as your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, model year, current odometer reading, and best daytime contact number.

If you're located in the United States, feel free to PM me with that same information.

If I remember correctly there is wording in the extended warranty that says if something not covered under warranty failed due to failure of something under warranty that the non warranty part would also be covered. The glass heater is covered but proving it broke the glass is the only problem... with burn marks and melted plastic/rubber that shouldn't be to hard.

You type into Google NHTSA and it brings up this page as one of the top results:

http://www.nhtsa.gov/Vehicle+Safety/Recalls+&+Defects

There is a File Complaint Button.

People should do this for everything on every vehicle they own that they think is SAFETY related.

We had our first big snow of the year this week and when I went out to thaw my truck out I actually thought about all I have read about this issue and opted to not hit my rear defrost button and just let it thaw on its on. It's sad really that it has happened enough that I even thought about it.
