I planned on 5.0, but I found the perfect truck with an eco. I'm ex diesel guy, and the wife drives a turbo gti, so I think the eco is a great fit for me. I so far I really like it, but, I could have gone either way. I bought the truck more for how nice it is, not really the engine.

I m going to get the best fuel economy numbers on this board. Last tank 23.3mpg..local first 200 miles on the tank were almost 25 mpg. I know this truck can do 30 mpg. I have done 29 mpg over a 60 mile trip. I just need to do it for the whole tank for it to be official. A friend alreDy did 25mpg on a highway trip. I have a couple of fuel economy mods and will do more.

Where I live nothing is really flat other than the roads in the city along the river. Around town I'm averaging 14 mpg with my '12 Ecoboost, but on the highway when I first bought it the average was around 19mpg, but again that was with lots of hills.

I'll let you have that title. Driving like an old lady to obtain the best MPGs possible sounds pretty dull to me.

Before I bought the truck I did my research through Caterpillar and I knew this particular engine could be UP-RATED without any hardware changes. I gave them the engine's serial number and they looked it up.... But when I went to the local CAT dealer I was told I had to replace/modify the stock transmission and clutch for the 1850 torque rating if I wanted higher torque in the engine. I took the truck to a gear shop and they upgraded a couple of gears in the tranny (the old rating was 1650 torque only) and I put in a new LIPE clutch (2050 lb-ft rating).

Then it was off to the CAT dealer who uploaded the new software into the engine ECU and voila - I now had the maximum torque and horse power.

I finished the upgrade off by taking the truck to a bigger CAT dealer who had a DYNO and they did some performance tuning ... Now I have a truck that runs better on hills with a 48,000 lb load on the trailer than it does empty on a level ground It was all very expensive but worth every penny. Once you try 2050 lb-ft torque in a diesel truck, you can't go back I get great fuel mileage in this truck but I drive v-e-r-y s-s-s-l-o-w, not more than 60-62 MPH.

Honestly I don't understand guys that drive a 5.0L V8 F150 at 75 MPH and then complain about the MPGs. You park your truck next to a Honda or Chevy Cobalt (my previous ride, 34 MPG at 70 MPH) and compare the front area: F150 has to push much more air due to a bigger front. The faster you go, the more horse power the engine has to make to compensate for the air resistance. More horse power = more fuel. I personally drive at 60-65 MPH here in ON in my XL and I love how the V8 picks up speed from the stop. If I wanted 34 MPG and the 2.4L gutless engine, I'd keep the Cobalt!

2013 engine specs are almost at the bottom: 5.0 is 21 in the hwy.
http://www.topspeed.com/cars/ford/20...-ar130529.html

i have a 2011 5.0, my dad and brother both have 2011 ecos and they have been losing power, vibrating on the highway, etc. i can only conclude what i know.

i have had my problems fixed on my 5.0 and she's stout.

Side note, I would not conclude that the EB is a POS. There are thousands of people who are completely happy with the motor. They continue to fly off lots and are hard to find on the used market. This forum is not a great indication of the motors success. There are people here getting the advertised mileage (and more) and others who have trouble matching the mileage of the 5.4. Both the 5.0 and the EB have had their share of issues, which are exaggerated by the number of people on this forum as a relative percentage. (most people come to an internet forum because they are having problems)
