since you did what you did I doubt you have skills to repair it by using an orbital and polish. Take it to a pro as it will be quick work for them.

Polish it out, might take a couple different products. Use 3M products. As long as you can't feel the scratches with your fingernail, they should buff out.

You only scratched the clear coat, any auto parts store has polish for scratches/swirl marks. And I'll agree, that was dumb, but I've done dumber.

Plus one. If it doesnt catch a nail it should come out. That said, take it a detail shop.

Shouldn't be more than 50 bucks, and it sure beats burning a spot into your paint trying to do it yourself.

Agreed, dont attempt it yourself. if you are doing it yourself find a test spot in the bed of the truck and see if you can repair the scratch there first before you attempt the hood.

If you're not the detail type of guy and don't own a buffer you can't burn the surface of you're buffing by hand, take your time and you'll get them out. I have a can of wax that has been in my garage for several years and I've gotten more scratches out of my daughters black truck than I want to remember. Don't use a compound, use wax or a swirl remover as they have a very small amount of abrasive.

Yes the fingernail trick - if it doesnt catch I would use any OTC scratch remover; don't go nuts just give it a try. If there are still scratches take it to a detail guy like me

First rule of going to a gas station, be suspect of the squeegee. It has been used by a million people with god knows what on there cars and anybodys guess as to what could be in the water. Never, ever use on paint.

I even hate to use them on the windshield. Only out of absolute necessity will I use one.

It should buff out with a good wax with a fine pumice, swirl remover is a good choice to try first and then if needed you can go to a compound wax if it is deeper than you thought.
