Anyone consider Bullydog GT Gauge Tuner... they have tunes for 09-10, have ran it in my '09 5.4 for 6 months... great improvement. Going to move it over to the new '10 in the driveway and see how it helps it out now.....

Does adding a tuner change your warranty? I would think so unless there are "approved" tuner applications that could be used. If this is the case, who are they?

its one of those grey areas... unless they can prove the tuner did something to harm the engine... most of them can be quickly removed before you attend a dealership for warranty work, making for less questions, and less likelihood of warranty issues. I have left mine on, the dealer was fine with it... they are who I bought mine from!

So I've been looking around on here and a couple other sites, trying to narrow my search down between Superchips Cortex OR Hypertech Max. Not sure what it's called exactly!

I am NOT looking for advice about SCT, Gryphon, Troyer, etc. so please if you don't have input on one of the two Im looking into, please keep your comments out of this.

thanks in advance. and for the guy that's sure to tell me to search under programmers, chips, etc...... um, you know.
The Hypertech Max Energy programmer will work on the 2010 F150's with the 5.4. It has two tuning options, one for Regular fuel (87 octane) and one for Premium fuel (91 octane). The Regular fuel tune gives you 35 HP/42 Ft. Lbs gain over stock, at the rear wheels. The programmer will also allow you to adjust shift points, shift firmess, rev limiter, top speed limiter, and re-calibrate your speedometer for non-stock tires or gears.

People are getting an average of 1 to 2 MPG gains with the Hypertech tuning on the 2010 trucks.

Yes please. And I'd also like to see the mileage logs and gas receipts supporting the reported 1-2 MPG gains.

Thanks!

I had a Hypertech Power Programmer III for my 02 Scab 5.4, with K&N CAI and Flowmaster cat back exhaust. I could feel a difference between stock and the canned tunes (87 and 93 octane), and could definitely hear a difference between stock and canned tunes. I never kept track to see if I gained any mpg's.

Having utilized a canned-tunes programmer, I will say it's better than stock. Personally, I am going to save my money and wait for the Gryphon

In this scenario would the tuner be an "approved" tuner by FORD if they are the ones who sold it to u?

I am also interested in the gains in mpg, more so for towing. not looking to be a speed demon but the gain in HP towing at 70mph on hilly highways I would like to improve.

There are no Ford approved programmers. The Ford approved tunes are in your truck when it comes from the factory.

I can absolutely, positively guarantee you might possibly see a slight MPG increase with a programmer and custom tunes.

In other words, I wouldn't count on it. And if you did, it's highly unlikely it will be more than 1-2 MPG.

good to know about no factory approved tuners. It made sense there wouldnt be unless it was something say rousch or shelby or a FORD approved specialist did.

And I would be happy with just 1-2mpg more

quick math

On average say I usually get 14mpg
as an example we will use 15,000 miles a yr on a truck
thats 1250miles a month
@14mpg for one month thats 89.29gallons of gas
@$2.50 per gallon thats $223.21 a month and $2678.57 a yr

now lets do 15mpg
same miles a yr/month
@15mpg thats $208 a month and $2500 a yr

Thats a $178.57 savings a yr just by 1mpg.

prices in gas are up around $2.80 around me. so savings would be more.

now I understand there goes the price of the tuner and plus some, but you are not only geting mileage but also a little more power. sounds like a good investment to me....that is if it doesnt effect warranty lol
