Default How wide a tire for stock 18/7.5"wheels?

Good Day All,
I've got stock 18" chrome clad wheels on my 2011 XLT Screw. Been looking for some 20" chrome wheels or FX gray painted aluminum, but I need tires more than rims. Before looking into new wheels, I was going to replace my factory 275/65/18 Goodyears with 275/70/18's... of some brand. But how wide can I go on this rim, SAFELY? Not worried about rubbing as I will be adding a 2" lift up front and 2" blocks in the rear, and I'm not looking to go too large, but how wide? Thanks.

Tire manufacturers will list the specifications your after on their website (recommended rim width for each size), they tend to vary amongst different brands. Goodyear, for example, recommends 275/70r18 as the biggest Duratrac to mount on a 18/7.5 inch rim. Some people run bigger, however, this often leads to premature tire wear.

Yeah, I've read many of the manufacturer's recommendations. And then I've also read so many signatures and posts on this forum where it appears many run larger. No, I don't want to wear my tires down prematurely, but I can monitor, rotate, etc... But as far as safety... That's what I'm concerned about. Thanks.

I ran these 315x70x17 BFG's on a 17x8 wheel for 43K miles with no problem's...only half worn and I sold them to a guy that put them on his Hummer..these tires would have gone 80 to 90K miles but I got tired of looking at them!

I'm either going to get some new wheels and tires, or just some new tires. I actually like my 18" chrome clad factory wheels (am I alone?). So I can exceed the 275/70/18 max recommended size tire for 7.5" rims? Again, safety is my concern, not so much tire wear. Thanks!

Not much wider like your asking for but I'm running a 285-75 and they actually fit the rim well IMO.
