I currently have USB charger in that space and swap that with a 120v inverter. The cap is just in the way but I want the option to put it back on. I don't want to remove the inner cover ring.
Thanks in advance.
Wondering if you ever found a way to do this or not?

I'm interested in doing the same thing. The cover just gets in the way...

How about for a newer dash on a 2018? Any idea how to get the 12v socket out? I can feel it from behind the glove box but not sure how it releases.
