Right on. I did 80 plus for most of my life. The 60 hour weeks seemed like holidays. Retired in 2006 but still work part time. Have worked 10 weeks this year. Each one about 60 hours. The off time is great and the work is still enjoyable.

Life goes fast so keep on with your education and love mom and dad like their is no tomorrow because you never know what it will bring. I miss my father everyday, lost him when I was 35. He was the rock that I stood on and my best friend in life.

I envy you. Only 20 more years until I can retire! Enjoy it!

I retired at 38. It sucked so bad I found a retirement job 3 months later. Now at 47 I'm back in school. I find retirement boring as hell myself. I'm sure others may have plenty to fill their days but it isn't for me. I have some cows, some rental properties, kids schools activities and my in-laws drama, yet still feel I have to much idle time on my hands. When I get out of college both my kids will be in; I may try retirement again then and just travel..............but I doubt it.

Wow, some of you guys work to many hours for my taste. I haven't put those kind of hours in a very long time. On average I put in about 45-50 a week, with some weeks more then that depending on whats going on. Don't get me wrong, those 45-50 hours are non stop ***** to the wall with talking to customers to fill there needs, training classes, coordinating my technicians, coordinating my delivery drivers, and meetings upon meetings with various departments. I just prefer the work to live approach and not the live to work kind of lifestyle. Luckily I am damn good at what I do to be able to dictate how much I wanted to work to my employer when they came looking to hire me. I learned a long time ago that whatever you choose to do in life be the best in it or work hard everyday to be the best, and you will never need to go looking for a job again.

I looked out of my DFP into the darkness. I could hear the 81's going out and could gess with almost pinpoint accuracy the time of impact. I knew the area that lied withing my limiting stakes and my PEWS field like the back of my hand, but at night it became an alien land; ever changing as shadows shifted with the flicker of moonlight through the clouds. I lost count of how many coffee packs I had held on my tongue before washing it down with a swallow of water. It kept me up but its effects were ever shortening as the night seemed to be ever extending. As my mind wandered from random thought to random thought it occurred to me that at some point in my life I will realize that what I am doing is work. It will be a task that I must perform for the reward of a paycheck. Perhaps not a particularly exciting task and probably not one that I look forward to doing, but for the sake of a paycheck I will complete it. I knew that day laid ahead, somewhere in my future. It was a place that I was heading for but I didn't understand why. In my moment of caffeine induced clarity I realized that I do not go to work, I do not have a job and I do not punch a clock. I live a life that includes an abundance of activities that test my determination, resolve and endurance. I live a life that may start early, end late and take me around the world. For this I receive a stipend but it isn't for work, it is for how I choose to live. Once that feeling is over, I have to work for a living. It was at that moment that two thoughts crossed my mind. Why am I moving towards work as my end goal and why in the hell did they make me, the M-60 guy, the RTO? The second question was one that I couldn't offer an answer to except that our captain was an idiot. The first though had a clear answer. I had to have a plan for my future that allowed me to never have to “work”.

NOTE: The following will not apply to everyone because some regions are just to damn expensive.

To those younguns' here, buy a house. Make it one that is is easily afford so you can pay it off in 10 years. Once you start making more money, buy another house; this one should be bigger but still in a price range that allows for a 10 year payoff. You can buy the second while still paying off the first. As you move from one house to the next you begin renting out the old house. Use every other rent check to help pay off the home and once it is paid off continue to use every other rent check on the next house as well. Soon 20 years will go buy and you will have a steady rental income as well as numerous homes paid for, mostly by others. Then you will have your in-laws want to live in them rent free. Don't let them.

On a side note, I have a 2 bedroom close to campus for rent in Warrensburg. $475 a month.

On your deathbed, are you going to look upon your loved ones and tell them how you wish you had more money in your checking account?
