I said 9+, but after the warranty runs out I'm planning on doing some mods so it may be sooner rather than later. Lol. Plus that's when the kids will be starting college so I won't have money for a new truck.

Agreed.
Depreciation is really NOT your friend gentlemen, it's flat out criminal how much the vehicles today depreciate.
So the only way to combat this after Cash for Clunkers screwed everything up, is to keep your vehicle longer.

I told my wife when I eventually buy a full size pickup, it's going to be in the driveway for at least 10+ years. Usually I keep my DD's for only 5 years, but I always bought used and under $20,000. So this is the first time I allowed myself to get a $50,000 truck. I don't like debt either, hence the philosophy. This very well might be in my driveway til I retire and move south of the border in 25 years.....who knows.

Back when I was GM loyal my entire life, I had ambitions of buying a GMC Sierra crew cab and keeping a few junkyard LSx engines cheap on the side with the transmissions. I have two GM classic muscle cars I put an LS1 and an LY6 into with modern OD transmissions. So I figured, why not with a truck!!! I can swap them out myself and keep the truck running for 20+ years. Now that GM screwed America, I'm going to have to figure out if Ford's Ecoboosts will be excessively priced or not in boneyards to do the samething. I have to figure it out I guess as it goes.

I have no ambitions of doing mods to the EcoBoost either though, I own a Hayabusa if I want to go stupid fast.

If this one is as good as the 02 I traded for this one, this is my last one. I had the 02 for 12 years and could have easily kept it for another five before I had to sink some money into it. So in 12-15 years would put me in my early to mid 70's and don't think I would need a new one at that age. Besides, I have two Harley's.

I'm limited to 5 years or 150,000 miles. I'll hit the mileage cap long before I get to 5 years. 24,000 miles since April.

I paid cash for mine and I'm thinking after 5 years or so I'll start looking to replace it if it's financially in the cards. I have a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper extended warranty so I'd like to be into a new vehicle by the time that is up. I've put 24k on in the almost 10 months that I've had the truck but that is going to slow down greatly since I'm no longer working out of town doing a 640 mile round trip twice a month. I'd love to trade up in 5 years but I'll have to see how things look when the time comes.

This was me to a tee, for three of my new trucks. Basically forced me to get into a another truck. My 05 was at 9 years with only 140,000 mi.
I don't know about this 13. Could be 4 if the new one is too hard to resist, or another 9yrs.
I just don't drive as much as I used too.

Wink

Well, this October will be 12 years that I've owned my '94 T'bird. So if that's any indication. Or, if she ends up being totaled for some dumb reason. But mostly, unless I can take it with me, not until someone can pry the steering wheel out of my cold dead hands.
