How long do you plan on keeping your truck?
in the past, i have beat mine so far to death i have to get rid of them right at or before the 5 year mark. in 2005 i had 160k on my truck and then last may i had 120k on the 2005 model that i traded in.
i would rather pay a note on a truck that is 99.9% reliable than have it break down at any given moment. prior to 2000 when i purchased my first new vehicle which was also my first new truck, i used to own the beaters. i was all the time repairing this and repairing that. i just remember it being a real pita to maintain a beater.
i really like the idea of climbing into the cab just knowing there won't be any problems.

No more than 3 to 4 years...or 50k miles for the following reason
- I want a truck that is always under warranty
- Resale... I want to get some money back from the truck
- and I get bored with a daily drive car/truck after 3 or 4 years...

My downfall is I get bored with vehicles. In my head I would like to keep my 10 Lariat for a year or 2 after I pay it off. The moment I have to start repairing or replacing things more than general maintenance I will sell or trade it in for a brand new one wheather it's three years from now or ten.

My Wife and I have been married for nearly 30 years, and in that time neither of us have had a specific vehicle LESS than 9 years. During that time we have never purchased a brand new vehicle....we've always done our homework, tried to choose wisely, and the most important part, taken good care of our rides.
Right now I drive a 1987 Toyota Xcab that I have owned for 12 years. In that time I have invested nearly $7k into, but already have two different individuals who have offered me $7,500 for it. I also have a 1977 F 150, which needs some cosmetic work, but otherwise I would not be afraid to jump into it and drive from Seattle to New York (just can't afford to drive the old gal much at 9 mpg!) Proper care and maintenance will make a vehicle last.
In the spring we are planning to purchase our first brand new vehicle... a 2011 F150 XLT...it's possible that it may be the last truck we ever own...meaning we will keep it as long as possible/practical. With the down payment we plan, and the sale of the Toyota, the new rig will be paid for.....I HATE making vehicle payments.
