Default How Long?

Good morning...
I am just wondering how long you all go between oil changes? I have a 2010 FX4 with 5.4L. It has 88K on her. I have been going 3000 miles in between my oil changes, I use full synthetic 0W20 or 5W20. I am thinking about going 3500-4000. What do you all think?

Thanks

5,000 with syn-blend for me. I believe those with full syn change around 7,500.

I go 3,500 to 4,000 on mine too with full syn. Previous owner did around 3,000 to 3,500 at the dealer so I assume the blend. So I am just keeping up with what he did but extended slightly. I do mostly short trips anyways, so it is a twice a year change for me.

Countless threads on this subject. Your truck has an oil life monitor that will alert you at 7,500 or 12 months, whichever comes first. This is not the same as the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor in newer models.

According to your manual, you should be using 5W-20, not 0W-20. There is no reason to change your oil more frequently than what is specified. Going from 3,000 to 3,500 or 4,000 miles is fine, and still more than necessary, unless you do extensive towing or heavy usage.

Thanks All!
RickTwhuk I read in my manual or at least I thought I did... that in the winter I could use 0W20. And I never saw an Oil Life monitor section in there. But I will definitely look again!!

Just go by the computer, IMO. I've had full synthetic in my 5.0 since it was new and usually go 8-9k miles in between changes.

I'd stick to 5w20, upping the interval to 3500-400 shouldn't hurt much but I wouldn't go much further than that. The 5.4's seems pretty sensitive to oil and filter quality.

I use Royal Purple. Depends how i use my truck in between oil changes. If I do any towing or just more extensive work than usual then I'll change it every 5k. But if I don't end up doing much towing I'll go 7k comfortably between changes. (Wix XP oil filters + 5w20 Royal purple) I'm at 136k miles no issues.

I use Motorcraft Synth-blend oil and filter. I go 4000 miles per oil change.
