At least you won't have to push that one button to turn it off any more.

Reviving this old thread to say THANK YOU for this awesome hack! The backup alarm is one of the most annoying things about my truck. Yes, you can disable it from the steering wheel buttons, but it turns itself back on every time you start the truck, and it's not best thing in the world to be fiddling with steering wheel buttons when you're trying to back up safely. Now I can back up in silent bliss.

One small modification to your approach - my soldering skills are just awful, so soldering the resistor across the terminals on the PCB didn't work. It disabled the backup assist system entirely, and I wanted to keep my color proximity bars. So I removed the resistor from the PCB, plugged the speaker back in, snipped the speaker off the red and black wires, and soldered the resistor across the wires instead. Not as elegant as yours, but it works just as you described: the stereo volume cuts and the colored proximity bars work, but no obnoxious beeping. Great success!!!
