So what he have found here, and thanks for all the posts, is three things:

Premium does provide improved performance by detecting the octane level and adjusting the spark accordingly. Ford didn't print that their engines had better performance on premium without reason.

Premium can get a little better mileage, but not enough to justify the increased expense. The improved performance might justify, but that depends on the owners wallet, like any other power adder.

What I originally posted was correct, and people argued all types of arguments, but I made the above two points repeatedly. It's time for this thread to end.

Premium does not get better mileage unless it has no ethanol and 87 is e10

Tuners would not be able to gain power on 87 if the stock tune was already pulling timing on 87. But I've posted this already.

And what SultanGris said.

Sullyman, reiterating controversial points does not typically promote ending a thread, which was your stated goal.

Meh, a bunch of chest thumping in this thread, like a lot round here lately...

My truck makes more than enough power for me and the premium is just not worth the extra expense (here in Ontario it is north of 5 bucks a gallon), so I'm sticking with regular grade.

Ya it's crazy expensive here. I do occasionally run a tank of mid when the price is down a bit. I think it cleans better with the added detergents.

The service manager at my Ford dealer told me not to put any injector cleaners in the gas because the injectors are self cleaning. They have a special coating and the cleaner will actually remove the coating. Just FYI

Local gas in my area is .20 cents/gallon more for premium. .20 x 36 gal = an extra $7.20 to fill up. It's worth it to me for the extra power. I average about 18mpg combined with a leveled 157 4x4 & 3.73 gears with raptor wheels/tires. Eco boost engine FYI.

Not too bad but I do go easy on the gas pedal though and keep it under 70 on the freeway.

I don't add stuff myself. The higher grades come with better/more detergents. So they say ;-)

I ran a "special" test using sex panther premium fuel and I found that 70% of the time, it increases mpg everytime.
