high mileage 5.0 - 200+ ??

No not at all. It's just like every other fluid in the vehicle to include the much neglected Powersteering and brake systems on most vehicles. Over time moister, corrosion, and surface material from internal parts will degrade the fluids ability to lubricate internal parts. In a transmission it is even more critical because it Provides hydraulic pressure as well.

I have a 2009 that I bought used, it had 190K+ on the original engine before the PO had it replaced. The shop put in a used one with 60k on it about a month before I bought it. I'm now sitting at 198k miles now, so on the replaced engine that's roughly 68k miles. Most of the 190K miles I was told were from pulling horse trailers and other things on the farm.

My buddy's 5.0 has 212,000 on it. He says it runs like a scalded dog and the truck itself doesn't even have any squeaks and rattles. He loves it.
I've only got 105,500 on mine, but it's still like a brand new truck inside and out.

I have 176,000miles on my 2011 5.0 Screw. I purchased it from a safety inspection company that had their own mechanical shop for upkeep. The brakes and struts have all been replaced. It runs amazing and pulls and shifts strong. At 50% life, the oil is only light brown. The only issues I have addressed is the leaking coolant t-piece connector, a parking sensor connector (the vehicle was run without mud flaps and the wires on the outer sensors were almost sandblasted away. It also has a slip yoke clunk that I need to service. This is a rare specimen and other than driver seat wear, you would think it has less than half the miles on it. It was also meticulously maintained by a company that needed to rely on it.

I assumed so, but wanted to clarify. He said it had been replaced.
Mine has 144 on the clock now. It's a work truck; if I continue with it, it'll have 190+ by this time next year.
That's really what I needed to hear. My truck has 144k on it now. Brakes have been replaced (rotors and pads), plugs, and regular oil changes. I drive it for work and don't want to be stranded. Shocks are stock. the rest of the truck (other than some rock chips) is in excellent condition.
