Default High Heat Paint

What do you think?...

I have a Blue Flame FX2 that is mostly Blue and Black. I want to black-out all the Chrome - emblems and all. I'll be using Plasti Dip for the Chrome emblems.

I installed dual exhaust when I first got it but unfortunately, the tail pipes have discolored from the excessive heat. They are actual Chrome exhaust pipes - not a separate Chrome tip so I purchased a can of "Rustolium High Heat" black paint and I want to paint the visible parts of the Chrome exhaust tips black.

The can says it will resist up to 1200 degrees of heat. It's made for propane grilles and the like.

What do you think? Think it'll work? Has anyone done this?

I'd HATE to take it to a shop and have them do it if I can do it myself.

yes, BBQ paint works fine. Use it all the time on exhausts

I have used that exact paint on my 4wheeler exhaust and it came out good. I stripped mine down to bare steel and primed it using the Rustolium High Heat Primer which is a little harder to come by but Summit has it.

Has anyone painted over chrome? Obviously, I'll clean real well and prime with high heat primer as well.

You could just use factory Ford paint and you can even color match! It's good for high heat. Several weeks ago, my tailgate was opened when it hit -50F, and of course the latches were froze tight. I spent some time with a blow torch heating up the latches. The bed liner material caught fire, but the paint looks new!!!

BBQ paint works good. Best of luck. If you try what's mentioned above, YMMV.

I've painted exhausts many times but not chrome.

The best thing for chrome is powder coat. Chrome loves powder coat.

The only high-temp spray paint that worked for me and didn't burn off (factory pipe) is silicone header wrap paint:
