Default HID install question

I have some HIDs on order, they will be in in about a week (I hope).

Question is: When I install them am I supposed to take off the bulb cover that is inside the headlight housing?

I noticed it yesterday, The bulb in the headlight has a little cap over it, just wandering.

Thanks.

Usually, you have to drill a 1.5" hole in the back of the cover to accomodate a plug that is going to go into it that will contain the wires going from the ballast to the bulb. I just used a normal drill bit and a dremel until I got the hole the side I needed it. If you feel like going all out, you can go get a hole saw.

I would wait until you get your kit so you can see what size it requires. Most of them are the same though.

I didn't have to drill anything on mine. HID Bulb went right in without any issues.

That bulb cover is attached to the headlights and wont come out when you remove your stock bulbs.
I think that cover is supposed to project all the light to the reflector for proper beam focus and reducing glare and also to protect the outer plastic lenses from heat.

Mine was just pull out the old bulb and put in the new one. The shield that says ford is part of the reflect/lens. It is easy to do with no drilling involved.

Thanks for the replies. That helps. According to the manufacturer (DDM tuning) they are supposed to be "plug and play".

Oh... duh. I didn't catch the "Inside the light" part. Different cover. Nevermind.

They really are plug and play. The hardest part about it will be figuring out where you want to mount the relay box and ballasts and where to run the wires without them being seen and far enough away from the radiator.

so how are you going to retro the headlights for projectors to ensure you get a nice clean cutoff from your HIDs? (using them they way they were intended)
