Help: Trying to buy 2012 FX4
 
This is my first time posting actually and I do need some advice. Been looking into a 2012 FX4 with the luxury package for awhile now with not much luck. I am located in Georgia and cant seem to find a deal as good as the ones I have seen on here. The best deal I can find so far is 41,500 OTD. This is about 4,000 under MSRP and I thought I could do better this late into the model year. The dealers here are insisting that their invoice is between 39,000 and 40,000 and that a deal under that is impossible. What do you guys think? Good deal or keep trying? Thanks

Just bought mine last Thursday at Riverside Ford in Macon. The truck listed at just over 50,000, has the ecoboost, sunroof, luxury package, navigation. Got it for 42,400 drive out

I went through a free service on Consumer Reports' website (I think a partnership with Truecar.com) and with zero haggling I got our 2012 FX4 Eco Screw with appearance pkg + luxury pkg + moon roof + misc at over $8000 off sticker. That beat our companies x plan price by more than $3000.

If you know exactly what you want I highly encourage you to use an Internet service to do the work for you. I kid you not...I submitted my info at 4:30pm on Monday afternoon and had two voice mails on my cell phone by 4:32pm that same day from dealers looking to sell.

My deal wasn't as good as some of the $10k off sticker you sometimes read about but the dealer delivered it to my door from 3 hours away without so much as a drop of ink on any paperwork.

*Special note...this was a straight up sale. There was no trade-in involved.

CG, welcome to the forum. The $10,000 off deals are hard to come by. Usually when I see them in my area (North Carolina) the dealer has taken every incentive off the price, and when you ask they tell you that your now eligible for some ex. College student, Military or Law enforcement. It's just the game. Usually $7000 to $8000 off, and you got a pretty good deal. Good luck.

Try Gene Evans Ford. Between me and my dad we've bought right at 30 cars and truck from them over time. They will do u right. If ur gonna try them message me and I will give u my name and mention it. They pretty much will go out of there way to help

Keep trying. I bought my XLT at invoice last year (not including rebates) and was fortunate this year to haggle an even better deal ($1,200 under invoice) for my current 2012 FX4 and for trade-in they gave me $500 less than what I paid in 2011. The only advice is to do a ton of research to know and don't be afraid to contact a number of dealerships. This year I was lucky enough to have a dealership in town offer the best deal but last year it was a three hour drive. Just keep trying and make them compete for you. Good luck!

The OTD price is going to vary a lot depending on who you ask, based on various rebates, trade-in, taxes etc.

I am in the final stages of buying basically the same truck. I want a SCrew FX4 with luxury package only. Hard to find a truck like that without a few other options. But you can check out the invoice price on KBB. This will vary depending on the invoice date. I have been looking at a truck that was invoiced in January of this year and it is several hundred dollars cheaper than trucks invoiced in the last month or two. But it's true, invoice price for that truck with that package should be around $40,000 give or take a few hundred, depending on other options. I have called dealers all over the northwest and spoken with as many as possible in person. Only one dealer told me he absolutely would not go below invoice. All others seem willing to. The best I've found is about $850 below invoice. If you are serious and have everything lined up, ready to buy, call a few dealers and ask them for their best price. Tell them you won't even consider anything above invoice. If they say they won't sell below invoice, say thank you and move on. If you've done your research and know the market well, the sales guys will usually cut right to the chase and tell you what they are willing to do to earn your business.

Always negotiate based on purchase price of the truck, not out-the-door price. Sales tax and rebates won't change. Find some trucks with the options you want, call the dealers and ask for their sale price, relative to invoice. If you hear an offer you like, ask to see the invoice for verification, double check it with KBB (understanding that there may be a couple hundred dollar discrepancy) and go for it.

Finally, not sure how you will be buying, but if financing, be sure to have this in place before buying. They may offer you a great deal on a truck only to stiff you on the interest rate and make it all back. At the very least, know your credit history and get an idea for what rates you qualify for and what rate you're willing to accept. Be ready to walk if you cannot agree to satisfactory financing terms.

I would caution everyone to be wary of the phrase "invoice price". In reality "invoice price" is about the same as a clothing store having an item with a tag that says $50 then over the top of that a sticker that says $40. That $40 sticker is the equivalent of "invoice price." The reality is that neither price is what the store actually paid for the item. Plain and simple. So in the case of new (not pre-owned) vehicles what we end up with is sticker (aka MSRP), "invoice price", and actual dealer cost.

I highly encourage anyone looking to buy a new vehicle to use the Internet and really do your research. There are many web sites that tell you all the details of what I just stated. Truecar.com, Consumerreports.org, and Edmunds.com are where I started.

Thanks for the heads up on financing as I didn't have anything in place yet for my truck that comes in September. I will be taking care of that today, so I dont have a headache when the truck comes in.
