2013 F-150 SYNC with MyFord (Non-Touch and Non-NAV) Software Update
Good Afternoon-
Hope this helps someone else out there...
2013 F-150 SYNC with MyFord (Non-Touch and Non-NAV)
I have been having a lot of problems lately with SYNC and my Apple iPod -- it has crashed on me while playing music several times and also gives me a very annoying "Index Full" message every time I start the truck (yes, pulling the SYNC fuse does resolve the issue for a couple of weeks, only for it to come back).
Hoping I was simply behind on an update, I checked the SYNCMyRide website to find that my version is 4.1.2F and supposedly, that is the latest and greatest version for my truck... I did a little Googling and found that others were talking about a 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 update on the 'net, but those don't show as options for my truck!
A phone call with a very nice lady at the Ford In-Vehicle Technology Team later and I am told that the SYNC website must be confused with my truck, that there is a new version out (4.2.1F) and that it will require a dealer visit to install. She verified this in "PTS".
Specifically, she said that this update fixes a lot of issues, including the "Index Full" message, along with stability issues when using a USB media player and IOS6.
So I have scheduled a visit with my dealer in the AM, I will let you all know how it goes.
Has anyone else had the update? Notice anything different?

Sync Software Update: v3.6
Received a letter from Ford indicating the latest My Ford Touch update for my 2013 FX4 (MFT and Navi) is available for download.
This particular version (based on my VIN number) is v3.6
According to the letter it is supposed to "improve system performance and phone connectivity".
I'll get a chance to download and install (from a USB drive) tonight or tomorrow.

Yes, but that is specifically for MyFord Touch systems -- my F-150 does not have the navigation or the touch portion -- just a 4" screen with media information. They both have different firmware revisions.

I wish they would post the damned update online, I know how to flash the system and am not going to take to dealer just for that alone. I have the same non touch 4" system in my truck, it hasn't given me any problems other than the bitch is hard of hearing, I don't have an accent and it pisses me off to no end having to repeat and finally screaming at the damn thing to do what I want.
Have you got a thumb drive? If so see if they will let you have a copy of the update that you could post here for the rest of us.

As promised, here is an update...
Started my day at the dealership this morning and it indeed took nearly two hours for the work to be completed, but sure enough, they were able to successfully apply the update. When the service advisor put my VIN # in the system, it showed that I had an outstanding TSB that needed to be applied for "SYNC - VARIOUS FUNCTIONALITY CONCERNS" (TSB 13-6-17). This is the update that was performed.
I did some research on this TSB and found the following notes:
Those in red are of most importance to me!
My drive home was only about 30 minutes, but everything seemed to work correctly, so far... I did have to re-pair my iPhone, all of my Radio presets (including Sirius) are gone and all of my custom settings in the dash screen were reset to defaults -- I also now have an option to add a delay to the reverse camera, which I never had before. My iPod connected immediately and music started playing (after Mrs. Sync reminded me not to play with the iPod while driving).
I'll post another update once I get to spend some time with the new update, if you haven't picked up this update, I would suggest doing so!

This procedure excludes vehicles equipped with MyFord Touch or MyLincoln Touch.
Symptoms addressed by this procedure include the following:
All SYNC features inoperative: lack of or slow response to Auxiliary, Phone, and Voice button operation.
U3000:04 in the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM).
Intermittent phone connection issues.
When multiple phones are paired to SYNC, SYNC intermittently does not connect to the device that is set as the Primary phone.
Incorrect caller ID displayed for text messages.
Voice recognition system responds Calling Dot at Work.
Dials the first phone book entry in phone book to all Call commands.
Apple device connected via USB intermittently does not reconnect and resume playback after ignition cycle, system goes to Line In instead.
USB over time responds Indexing, Speech control not available with this device, Index Full, or fails to connect to a USB device previously connected without concerns.

MFT Sync v3.6 Software Installation....
...successfully performed last night (That's what she said...oh...sorry...).
Downloaded from Ford website onto empty USB drive. They remind you that it needs to be empty several times.
On the first try, it did not begin the download automatically. Took the USB drive out, looked at the files. They were in a folder...not a zipped folder...just a folder...
Took all items out of the folder, put them on Mac desktop....removed the folder from USB drive (remember it needs to be empty).
Put the individual files back on the USB drive, inserted the drive in the slot and the download started.
Probably took 45 minutes start to finish. Truck must be running the entire time. Website says you can drive it while downloading.
Phone needed to be re-paired and phone book downloaded again. Didn't take too long to do that.
Seems to work fine today.....we'll keep an eye on it and report back.
