Question help with tire wear

I've got a set of Cooper AT3 with roughly 43,000 miles on them. I started noticing wear on the outside, so the dealer aligned it. I did some searching online and found that most wear on the outside is due to underinflation. I added air pressure (currently 40psi) but now I'm getting wear on the inside of the tire as well. Tires were just rotated today, worst wear is on the fronts.

Tires have been rotated every 5,000 miles since they were put on.

Worn shocks or other suspension component? Dealer wanted to do another alignment but I don't see how that will help.

2014 STX SCREW, 56,000 miles.

Could you take some pictures?? Kidding!

Fronts always wear faster, worse, and more unevenly than rears (unless doing burnouts)
Under inflation will cause more edge wear due to "roll" when going around turns or bends at higher speeds. Usually the outside will wear the worst, because the tire leans in the direction of the turn, taking load off the inside of the tire, (camber). An overinflated tire will usually wear the center tread out first. That is exacerbated when people put tires on that are too wide for the rim.

The inside of the tire usually doesn't wear as quickly, and in many cases is a result of worn upper or lower ball joints, and sometimes control arm bushings.

Worn shocks will wear a tire in "patches", where you may notice flat spots.

That said, 43,000 miles on those tires ain't too bad.

driver got it right, something else is once a tire gets a wear pattern is almost impossible to get rid of it. on all AT and mud tires the more open the tread the more likely they are to cupp because to the space between the blocks on the edges. 3k mile rotation is better for a more aggressive tire. always do the chalk test for correct air pressure for type tire you are running.

As an ex tire tech it looks like just normal wear from hard turning

Tires from the factory? They are soft as hell then. I had an old truck with factory tires that wore like that. I bought a new set of tires and they didn't wear as bad.

I'm just trying to get the rest out of them. It's a 55,000 mile tire.

I live in WV - there are no straight roads. Am I supposed to slow for curves? lol

Not factory. These are Cooper AT3 that I put on at about 13,000 miles.

Yeah, I agree with this. Plus, I've never gotten the "rated miles" out of any tire.

Looks like normal wear, as the tire gets further into its life span it wears faster and more uneven as others have said.

If you're truly worried you can do a chalk test, take chalk and draw a line across tread, drive around a bit then look and see where the chalk line is worn. This will help dial in air pressure. Middle wearing only, over inflated, outside only under inflated, equal wear is just right.

I rotate and balance my tires at every oil change.
That is between 3500 and 4000 miles.
Pay now or pay later!
Doing tire rotation is still cheaper than a set of New Tires.
Have the air checked in between. the oil change Etc.
Think About It?
