Hey guys, new to the truck world; I just bought my first, a 2013 FX4 with 5.0 V8. To be honest, I never gave Ford a chance and was pretty much set on a Sierra, but one quick look landed this truck in my driveway.
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse with this topic, but after several attempts at searching the forum, YouTube, and Google, I'm just more torn with my exhaust decision. I'm hoping for a little help.
I'm not looking for something overly aggressive. I have a K&N CAI installed and the sound from that alone is almost perfect for what I'm looking for. I would however, like a little deeper tone, and I think added sound from the exhaust with an upgraded muffler will give me what I'm looking for. After research, I think I've at least decided on either a Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow, Flowmaster 70, or a Magnaflow 12249. I'm leaning more towards the 50DF or Magnaflow as it seems the series 70 is pretty much stock and the CAI will overpower any benefit of the 70 series.
The more I look into mufflers, the more I see contradicting reviews (mainly for the Flowmaster) saying it's either just right or too much drone. I'd like something that lets people know I'm driving, but nothing that will wake the neighbors or make me have to yell at my passengers on the highway.
Does anyone have any input on the delta flow? What are the biggest differences between the 50 Delta Flow and Magnaflow 12249 (18" body). The Magnaflow is about $20-30 less, so price between the two is a non-factor. I can't seem to find many sound reviews for the Magnaflow. Also, I'm leaning towards single output, mainly for the install cost; is there any benefits other than aesthetics for the double out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, sorry to bring up yet another muffler thread. I look forward to contributing to the board in the future and not just solicit advise on pretty basic questions.
TL-DR - Which is better, Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow vs Magnaflow 18" Muffler...
Hi there! I had Magnaflow dual exhast SI/DO on my 2010 F150 (RIP) that I did on my own.. I can say for certain that in terms of general performance the Magnaflow did the trick and gave me a satisfactory grumble at startup and idle and acceleration. While I am entertaining the American Thunder series from FM, I can say given your tastes you've outlined the Magnaflow will most likely satisfy your desire for an upgrade.
my thread on a borla muffler ( same style as magna flow) which is straight thru, like stock vs a chamber'ed (flow master) muffler. i would stick to open vs chambered as i've read more gripes about chambered and drone then not.
PCS, our 5x8x18 and 5x8x14" mufflers have been a popular upgrade option on the F150. You will find a number of owners on here that are using them on their trucks with positive results. Choosing a muffler is something thats largely based on opinion, and the ideal solution wont be the some for everyone. We can say that the straight-through design of our mufflers offers the best flow, and retains less heat for longer life. If you have any other questions we can answer, please let us know.
I have a 2011 5.0 with the 18" Magnaflow SIDO (think Raptor) set up. You know you are driving a V-8 and when you put your foot in it others know you have a V-8 as well.
Wife, kids and dog can still snooze on road trips and my neighbors still speak to me.
From experience Flowmaster is known for "Loud" your better quality exhaust systems are those that "tune" their sound in a variety of set-ups, Magnaflow, Borla; offer variations of sound depending on your taste.
No offense to MF but I am a Borla person. Been using Borla for over 25 years. When measuring flow charactersitics and % of flow over stock they have the best numbers. Also do yourself a favor and get the SS version...never sweat it again. Different set-ups will yield variations in sound / drone. But really, it's all what YOU like.
First off, nice truck man and welcome.
I've had all three, first was Flowmaster, then Magnaflow and finally I went with Borla.
I think my choices kind of fall in line as I got older. I used to like a loud exhaust so Flowmaster it was. Then I wanted it a bit quieter, so Magnaflow was just what I was looking for.
Once that exhaust rotted out, because I was too cheap to go with stainless (won't make that mistake again), I tried Borla and really liked how that was at all speeds. Zero drone. I could say the same about the Magnaflow too tho.
I can't believe it, but I can't remember what I put on my last truck. I ended up going with dual in and single out, Borla or Magnaflow.
Believe it or not but that was probably my favorite sounding exhaust. It looked factory all stainless but had a great sound that still turned heads.
I guess I could've simply just stated that, you can't go wrong with Borla or Magnaflow.
