i find it amusing people put these tunes on their truck. Personally I would trust ford engineers over some guy who makes custom tunes in his garage. Why toy with it? Just return it to stock and return your tuner to who ever sold it to you.

More power, torque, and economy? Stock tunes are notoriously conservative and aftermarket tunes can increase the drive ability of the truck by a lot.

I hope this isn't off topic but it goes along with no to slow response from 5 Star. Not bashing but sharing MY personal experience.

I know others have had great experiences with Mike and 5 Star but I am not pleased with him. I have given Mike plenty of chances to respond and he basically side steps my questions. I have no hidden agenda, and I am not working for or supporting another vendor.

As I said I know there are plenty of people that will come to his defense and say Mike was great and nothing but praises and we have read all those posts, that is what led me to him in the first place.

I first had a 2009 5.4 and bought a tuner and 2 tunes from him, got them real quick and all was fine. When I switched to 2013 5.0, I asked his opinion before I ever bought the truck about eco vs 5.0 and he was a smart mouth and said "buy both".

Then when I bought my new tunes for 160.00 for the 5.0, we went back and forth on the speedo (I have 275/65/20) and he told me he will try but don't beat him up over it. I spoke to SCT and they told me it was all in the guy doing the tune, and they asked me who it was and I told them. They said yeah we know of him. Don't know what that means just repeating what was told to me maybe that guy in tech support hasn't had much dealing with Mike. So he gave up on fixing my speedo saying "i cant get it any closer guy i tried".
"
Then I wanted to buy a CAI from him and he agreed to adjust my tunes and include his lid on the AFE intake, but when I ask him questions about the intake and it's function BEFORE I purchase, I get no reply, he side steps my questions. I ask him when would be a good time to call because I realize he was working 1/2 days through the holiday, and he doesn't respond. I email him again and nothing.

I did have a problem with the truck shifting hard on 1-2 ONLY with his 87 tune and he fixed that quickly (during this holiday time) but he ignores me on my other questions.

I am a customer and he says "Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business". Well he has had the opportunity and he isn't EARNING it. There are choices out there and I am glad he is busy and has had success but he needs to be more humble and answer peoples questions. I know he gets a lot of emails, is on many forums and a lot of people are asking him all sorts of things but get over it because that is the business he is in. At least respond!!

Too many chances to do the right thing, so this customer has moved on.

Did that.
I replaced them and brought the gap down to .35.
It helped a little but VERY little.
I might be forced to try swapping out the coil packs to see if the miss follows that pack.

Thanks for the brain storming.
Keep it coming!!! This thing is driving me nuts!

I have to agree with eah990, These modifications to a highly computer controlled engineered engine has already compensated and put the specs and tolerances in for the truck to perform and allow a range for performance. If Ford wanted there truck to be modified then why hasnt FORD issued new tuning chips to be bought. I understand the need for us truck guys to personalize and custom our trucks but it seems that altering todays computer programs just leads to issues and can surely reduce the reliability and longevity of the engines performance. This is why when you do dive into this you do it at your own risk. Good luck with figuring out your issue, but my advice is to put the (whole) truck back to stock and drive it awhile and see if your issues go away.

Your sediment dont hit the right key notes.....plenty of members on here have stock trucks. And the stock tune will not allow the trucks to shift into 6th gear until 68-70 mph.....now tell me how you decifer this issue, ford cant fix it and say this is a normal characteristic of these trucks.
But for some unknown reason aftermarket tuners can fix this.
Every thing in moderation....and for the record my gas mileage has gone up. And the locking unlocking lugging around of the stock trans tune is a byegone

Sorry to hear you are having a bad experience with 5-Star. I have the 5.4 like you did and everything is good with his tunes. I won't comment on your experience because it is what it is, except for your speedometer correction.
Different tires have slightly different diameters and it is difficult to get it exact. It is trial and error. Mike nailed it with my 35's, but it took me a while to adjust it to my 33" winter tires. Go up or down a little on the revs per mile, check it with a GPS and make more corrections if needed. He can't be there to test drive your truck after making an adjustment.

If you read my post you would see I gave him feedback and he point blank told me sorry he tried. He or SCT has locked me out of changing it myself.

It can't lock you out. When you pick a tune, go to "Adjust Tune" or something like that. Go to tire selection or tire revolutions per mile (I can't remember exactly).
That's about a 34" tire and the revs per mile are somewhere in the area of 592. The X3 does not let you put in exact numbers, you just have to chose what is closest and play with it from there. I'm not sure which model you have, but I'm sure it's similar to mine.
