Default HELP...2013 EB 4x4 GRINDING NOISE 10-30mph front left

I know there have been a few threads about this topic already, but they tend to stray...

I have a 2013 EB 4x4 with 68K miles. The "grinding noise" coming from the driver side front sounds similar to a metal on metal noise that is heard inside the truck easier than outside the truck. However, at slow speeds around 10 mph when driving past a fence you can hear a slight intermittent noise as the tire rotates.

The noise is only prevalent after 10 mins. of driving. It is more prevalent under braking from 25 mph to stop.

New front rotors and pads put on at 60K miles. Took the truck to a mechanic a few weeks back and he had zero feedback as they couldn't hear the grinding noise. I assume this is because he didn't get the truck "warmed up enough".

I have heard some talk of IWE's, however, when engaged in 4x4 the sound does not alter or go away. Dust cover is not rubbing and rotor looks to be in good condition as does pad.

Help!

Sounds like you need a new brake vacuum pump.

If it occurred after changing the pads, I would make sure they are installed right. Maybe one is turned the wrong way, or a piece of gravel stuck in the pad.

Yes, check the pads. There is an inside and outside specific pad. If you install them wrong, all kinds of strange noises and weird wear issues can occur. This is a very common mistake that is made when this is done since very few vehicles out there have a different pad for the inside and outside.

Check the pads and make sure the proper pad was put on the outside and inside.

I would tend to believe if it was a pad/rotor problem, that it would be more consistent, and not take 8,000 miles before it starts.

To diagnose the brake vacuum pump, the more you pump the brakes, the easier it is to hear the noise......which could be why you only hear it after warming it up with a bit of driving.

If you do replace the pump, make sure you get the updated vacuum hose as well.
