From what I have read you have to use the trucks ignition to program a new key,and you also must already have 2 keys in order to program a third one.

From the owners manual.

Programming spare keys

Amaximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle. Only

SecuriLock_ keys can be used.To program a coded key yourself, you

willneed two previously programmed codedkeys (keys that already

operateyour vehicle’s engine) and the new unprogrammed key(s) readily

accessiblefor timely implementation of each step in the procedure.

Iftwo previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must

bringyour vehicle to your authorized dealer to have the spare coded

key(s)programmed.

Pleaseread and understand the entire procedure before you begin.

1.Insert the first previously

programmedcoded key intothe

ignition.

2.Turn the ignition from the 1 (off)

positionto the 3 (on) position. Keep

theignition in the 3 (on) position

forat least three seconds, but no

morethan 10 seconds.

3.Turn the ignition to the 1 (off)

positionand remove the first coded

key from the ignition.

4.After three seconds but within 10 seconds of turning the ignition to

the1 (off) position, insert the second previously coded key into the

ignition.

5.Turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on) position. Keep

theignition in the 3 (on) position for at least three seconds, but no more

than10 seconds.

6.Turn the ignition to the 1 (off) position and remove the second

previouslyprogrammed coded key fromthe ignition.

7.After three seconds but within 20 seconds of turning the ignition to the

1(off) position and removing the previously programmed coded key,

insertthe new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into the ignition.

8.Turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on) position. Keep

theignition in the 3 (on) position for at least six seconds.

9.Remove the newly programmed coded key from the ignition.

Ifsuccessful, the new coded key(s) will start the vehicle’s engine and the

theftindicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out.

Ifnot successful, the new coded key(s) will not start the vehicle’s engine

andthe theft indicator will flash on and off and you may repeat Steps 1

through5. If failure repeats, bring your vehicle to your authorized dealer

tohave the new spare key(s) programmed.

You need two individual keys, non-clones, to program a third.

If the customer only has one key, then you will need to use a Ford IDS to wipe the existing keys and program two new keys into the system, the existing key being one of the two. The same is true if the customer has two clone keys.

Is this with a mykey system? Im dealing with lost keys for a 2012 ford f150 xl. We have a H92 PT cut and ready to install. Trying to program the new key but the key programming machine in the system is zero. Trying to program and it says error key already installed. There is not a theft light thats on just an l.e.d. display near the mileage that says starter disabled or something like that.

If all keys are lost you have to have the dealer erase the current program and then reprogram and make new keys. To my knowledge this can't be done by anyone but the dealer.

Edit: This is a security feature so that someone can't just jump in with a blank key and program it. To make spare keys you Have to have 2 of the original keys. If you have no keys the whole ignition must be reprogramed.

Yup, that's where IDS comes in, don't have to be a dealer though, I own IDS my self. I use to be a dealer tech so I'm trained how to use it and it is usually only found at the dealer or a high end mechanic shop that supports Ford technology (technically German Bosch in this case).

10 min security delay then erase, then program new.

It sounds like you may be experiencing issues with the key programming process for the Ford F150 XL. Without more specific information about the machines you are using and the exact steps you are taking, it's difficult to provide a solution. However, some potential reasons for the error messages you are receiving could include faulty equipment, incorrect programming procedures, or a problem with the vehicle's onboard computer system.

In this case, it may be best to consult with a professional locksmith or an authorized Ford dealership for assistance in programming the new key. They may have access to more advanced equipment or specialized knowledge that could help resolve the issue.
