Have you ever completely removed a vehicle dash assembly? That's the first step. then you have to pull the entire hvac plenum assembly to access it and you also have to discharge the a/c and recharge when done. It's not an easy job.

Yeah well it is what it is. I know how to do the job my self but I've gotten long in years now and I'd trade it in on a new truck if faced with that task.

New cars and trucks are not easy to work on anymore but I'm always up for the challenge as long as we have the correct tools and manual. My motto is: "If they can do it, then I can do it too."
Although it took me two days to change a heater core in are once owned 1989 Ford Taurus SHO. You had to remove the entire dash, center console, steering wheel, drivers seat and pull out the engine electrical harness even before thinking of pulling out the heater core. When that car was being built on the assembly line, the first thing that went in HAD to be the heater core.

I wonder if you could cut the heater core out from the firewall side? Cut a square out and get to the core and for replacement, pop rivet a flange onto the cut out piece and the firewall ???? Use butyl tape for a gasket.
Just speculating. Got to be an easier way.
