Default Having a hard time finding an F150

Hello Everyone..

I have been looking at 2011-2013 F150 the last month and have yet to find one that is matching everything I want. I'm starting to wonder if they are "rare" or just didn't get ordered alot in the configuration I'm looking for.

I'm looking for the Supercrew with the 6.5' bed, ecoboost, max tow package and the backup camera in the dash. If I've been lucky to find one with the 6.5' bed it has the smaller display for the camera mounted in the mirror. The tow mirrors would be icing on the cake but I haven't found many with the mirrors.

Are the Super cabs more common with the packages I'm looking for? I really would like the extra interior space of the Supercrew.

Am i looking for a needle in a haystack or is this not a truck Ford put together?

Thanks
-Dave

Not anywhere near at many 6.5' beds out there....you add to that the Maxtow package and its like looking for a Unicorn (Max tow package is kind of rare also). Im not saying that NONE of them exist but you are looking for a very specific year range of truck with VERY specific list of options. Do what you want but if you hold out looking for EXACTLY that and will settle for nothing less...you may be waiting until your dead LOL. IMO you need prioritize your list of "Needs/wants". If you need the longer bed I understand that. The max tow package and be supplemented by doing aftermarket parts. The camera in the dash is a want but whatever....How often are you backing up anyway LOL? You get what im saying. What is the most important thing to have on the truck and if you find one with that and not one of the others can you live without it?

The biggest downfall of buying used is often trying to find exactly what you want, not only features/options, but also mileage, condition, etc.

I agree with prioritizing your wish list, and the ease/cost/practicality of a work around solution would determine the order. If you really need (or want) the 6.5 bed CC, then I wouldn't settle for less. Cab and bed size are 2 majors things you can't practically change. When I bought my truck, I really did NEED the crew cab (single w/no wife/kids at the time), but I knew a CC would serve me better in the long term. I wanted a 6.5' bed, but settled for the 5.5 because I could find a good deal on a truck that met all other requirements (I bought new, but at end of year when new models came out). There have been a few times I wish I had a 6.5' bed, but I've done everything I've needed to with the 5.5.

Max tow is another package that truly be added after the fact (for 11-14s) because the max tow package bumps the GVWR up by about 400-500#s. The rest of the Max tow package can be added (or mimicked) afterwards.

For the 11-12s, you'll likely have to step up to a higher model (FX4, Lariat, KR, etc) to get the in dash back up camera. It will likely also come with navigation and will be an 8" screen. For the 13-14's, It's fairly common to find lower optioned trucks (like an XLT) with a 4.3" screen for the radio display. These trucks often have a backup camera that displays using this screen. My cousin has one and it is much easier to see the camera than the ones in the mirror.

I definitely can relate to your situation! I just found a 6.5' crew this past September after looking on and off for quite some time.

I'm not sure what your methods of searching are, but one thing I found really difficult was that not many places list the size of the bed. And since I was also looking used, it was even more difficult calling on them to get an answer. A lot of the salesman would simply say its the "short-bed", and I was even told by two dealers that the crew cabs only came in 5.5' bed. When talking with some of the old school salesmen, short bed meant it wasn't 8 feet haha.

The reason I mention that is because that for the truck I actually ended up buying, I called the dealer's used lot because they didn't have a straight on side shot or list the bed size. I actually talked to a salesperson and was told that the truck was directly next to his office window and it was the short-bed. When I asked what size that meant, he said it was the 5.5 since that's all they came in and assured me that this truck was the 5.5' bed.

I looked at the pics online more and you can tell if its the 6.5 because of that extra foot between the fuel door and the front of the bed. I swore it had the extra foot. Made the hour drive that night to check on it and sure enough it was the 6.5. Even brought a tape measure since the sales guy had me paranoid.

Its tough because if you use any of the online search engines, there usually isn't a good way to narrow it down. It really takes looking at a ton of pictures and wading through them all. I'm really glad I went with the crew because it has a lot more room for car seats and the dog can lay on the floor much more comfortably. I use the bed all the time for construction and hauling my Softail to Florida from NY to FL at least once a year, so it was a must as well.

If there are certain things you think you really want, I would keep looking until you find them!

Just keep searching man. I was looking for well over a month before I finally found the truck I wanted. Searching multiple times a day every day. 2013-14 FX4 with 5.0 and luxury package, super crew and 6.5 bed. Came with OEM tow mirrors from the factory and had less than 50k miles on it when I bought it. Having HIDs on it was a huge plus, didn't know it was exclusively for 13+ models at the time. Had to travel an hour to get it but the truck you want is out there, you just have to find it.

I have a 2010 KR Super Crew w/ 6.5" bed and the max tow package. I had no idea it was rare.

I have learned something today.

I only wish it had a 5.0 Coyote instead of the 5.4 boat anchor lol.

If you want to talk about searching for a unicorn, try this:
2013 or 2014 only (gotta have HID's)
Lariat or higher trim level (heated and cooled seats, auto 4x4)
Supercrew
6.5' bed
6.2L
NOT BLACK
I started looking in June of 2017 for this truck. Every once in a while I would find one, but most of them were black for some reason, and they were never less than 200 miles away from my house. Or I would find a 6.2 crew 5.5' truck.
I came very very close to "settling" for a crew 5.5' truck. But just when I thought my Unicorn would never show up, she did. About a month ago, I found this.

Name: SUTVoRk.jpg
Views: 8
Size: 73.0 KB

Not only did she check ALL of the right option boxes for me, but it wasn't just close, it was at THE DEALER I WORK FOR!!!! If there is anything I can complain about, is it has a tad more miles than what I was hoping for (67k) and someone had removed the power running boards. But I figured this was probably a one time only chance for a 6.2 long bed F150 to show up on the lot at work and if I didn't jump on it, it was gonna pass me by. And the power boards are problematic anyway and I'd just end up getting normal Chrome boards in the long run (which I did) so no real big deal there.

Bottom line is, if you don't have a deadline for when you HAVE TO BUY, just keep looking. and don't just use websites like autotrader or cars.com. Do google searches of Ford dealers in the states around you and then visit each one's website and look to see what they have on the lot. Don't forget to look on Facebook marketplace, craigslist and ebay as well. Over the last 8 months I have spent many many late nights, and countless hours searching and searching and searching some more, looking for the perfect truck for me.

I have a 14 that I had been on and off the fence of selling. They are hard to find though. Was wanting to get a F250 but don’t really need one. It’s a Heavy Duty Payload Package with the 5.0 4x4. Wife convinced me to keep it and lift/make my own....

i spent a couple of years trying to find the F150 i wanted.

i wanted 3.5 Ecoboost, crew cab, short bed, max tow package, payload capacity above 1800lbs and rear view camera. i would've like the HD Payload package but i needed the short bed.

i ended up finding a 2014 XTR(Canadian XLT)one in Sunset Metallic, that had all of that with 33k on it, for $30k.
