Default Have you replaced an IWE?

So I just got my truck back after being at the dealership for 2 weeks. I brought it in because of a grinding noise in the front end, turns out they had to replaced the IWE on both sides.

I am curious how many people have had this issue, and if it will come back down the road?

I am hoping I won't have to replace them again but figured I would ask.

Yep I have a video on YouTube on how to do it. And yes they will fail again. Pretty easy. Took me 30 min per each wheel. Let me know if you have any questions.

Integrated wheel end. It is at the hub of your wheel and it's a gear that is held back by your engine vacuum. Once you put your truck in 4x4 it take the vacuum away and engages the gear to your wheel. So in a nut shell it make your 4x4 work. They go bad often but only $100.00 per wheel is a lot better than Chevys $1000.00 bill to fix the 4x4

Nice. Thanks for that detailed response.
Would there be any means to make it a mechanical lockup? Like a separate shifter or some such?

I know you don't see then anymore, but I really liked the manual hubs my old Tacoma had.
