Issue: Dash warning to ‘Service AdvanceTrac’ keeps popping up

The error message is usually displayed after doing a sharp or full lock turn.

Possible Solutions:
  • Temporary- Straighten out your steering wheel and reset your truck.
  • Sticks may have gotten stuck in your wheel and simply need to be dislodged.
  • Reprogramming via dealer
  • Wheel sensor needs to be replaced
  • New steering rack

My 2011 FX2 started doing the whole service advance trac thing, turn signals not working also when the light is on. Noticed a while back that the wheel likes to not want to center itself when turning left at around 45mph for some reason. now I'm wondering if they're related issues. With all these posts going back years why is this not a recall issue?

@kevin7898 my truck is doing this when it’s in the 40s. Does this go away when it warms up again?

You need to replace the steering rack. It is very dangerous not to. Ford won't eat the cost unless they are forced to.

@Meathead, shouldn’t this be covered under power train warranty?

Default Service advance trac and hill assist unavailable came on and threw us off the road

Ok so I was driving on the freeway in my brand new 2017 F150 sport and these lights came on along with the abs light and I went around a sharp curve and it felt like something grabbed the back end of the truck and just threw it! I luckily only ran into a caution pole but caused a lot of damage I Took it to the dealership and the mysteriously can't find anything said I had to have hit the button! I didn't touch anything and am very mad at this point that they're treating me like I did something wrong!

It’s been a couple of years since my service Advancetrac came on, but it did it the other day. I hit the OK button and it’s been good. I’m at 78k miles now and have the extended warranty.

Fingers crossed...

My 2012 XL did the same thing. No turn signals and light stayed on. Dealer says the rack needs replacing at high $$. Out of extended warranty now but should I buy another warranty through the dealer or aftermarket? Truck has 36,000 miles.

Wow, 36,000 miles?? That's crazy!

For what it's worth, I bought my 2011 SCrew with 75K miles from a dealer, who ultimately told me they got it from auction. I bought an extended warranty with it through MPP. The AdvanceTrac message came up within a few months sporadically. The dealer replaced a few parts related to the steering column, including the turn signal switch. This seemed to fix the problem.

It showed up again around 100K miles and this time it wasn't sporadic, it was more or less constant. The extended warranty was about to expire, so I took it in and they replaced the entire steering rack and I haven't seen the issue since. It was covered under the extended warranty, but on the itemized bill it said it was about $1100.
