Has anyone bolted on a tonneau cover?

I just put on a Truxedo tonneau cover and while it went on ok using the supplied clamps, they do stick into the bed and are a bit goofy. I am considering drilling some holes and bolting the side rails on. This would mean drilling through my bed rails, but it seems like a better and more permanent option. I have the plastic be caps and it does seem like there is room for a bolt between the tonneau rail. The red arrow in the pic below is where I am considering drilling and bolting.

I would stick with the mounts that came with the cover.

Yeah don't do that... Ruin your truck over something like that...

Not sure if this will give you peace of mind, but I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles with those sort of clamps and never had any issues. Tighten down properly, and if you're OCD like me make sure they are straight and line up from side to side and you will be golden.

I just got my Truxedo too, had another brand and hated it so I got the dual latching Truxedo.

OK, thanks everyone. I need to stop thinking of things to do to my truck when I am either tired or have been drinking. At least I do think before I act LOL.

No no no, never stop that thinking, just make sure you run things past us first!

All kidding aside, there are so many things we can do to our trucks to make them our own and a little bit unique that it's slightly addictive. Luckily I am a cheap ass so my things are usually very "on the cheap" compared to many of the things I see on here!

Truck camper top shops may be able to supply a different clamp for it? These are the ones that came with my Roll-X.

What's the most popular tonneau cover used on this site? I need to get one soon and not sure which one to get...I'd like something strong enough to stand on

STOP! Put away the drill and "chillax"!
like Rnlcomp said. Just find a different style of clamp. I used to sell and install tonneau covers and camper shells (caps). I couldn't even begin to count how many different styles of clamps we had in stock in our shop. Find a dealer. I'm sure they would be glad to sell you some different clamps. Might even find some other "must have" accessory while you're there!

I know you already have the tonneau cover, but the "tri-folds" only use 4 clamps and are much less intrusive. They're also much faster to take off and put on.
