Default Hard Shift from 1st to 2nd Gear

Hello everyone! This is my first truck. I am having issues with 2013 F-150 Ecoboost shifting hard from 1st to 2nd gear. I have had the adaptives reset and the problem goes away for a little bit then comes back. Today I turned on the tow/haul button and the rough shifting from 1st to 2nd gear went away all together. I suppose I don't want to drive in tow/haul mode all the time so what can I do to fix the problem correctly? I was thinking of getting a tuner to address the shifting but didn't really want to through money away if this wasn't going to fix the problem.

Sounds like you already have a tune installed. I have MPT tunes and when I hit tow haul the trans feels more stock.

But then again I could be completely wrong

I was thinking the same thing. Any ideas on how to get the stock tune back? Would a dealership be able to put the stock tune back in? I bought the truck used and it has just over 100,000 miles on it.

I started experiencing an hard 1-2, 2-1 shift on my 2011 following the transmission recall software fix. I know part of the 2013 year is in that recall range. Do you know if that update was applied?

I looked up my recalls and I the only recall that I have that is close to a transmission recall is a sudden transmission downshift powertrain control module programming. Currently there is no remedy and they will contact me when they have a fix. Thanks for the suggestion

If that’s the recall that took place I think in March, it was for 6-1 downshift, that’s what I’m referring too. The reprogramming altered the shifting characteristics for all gears, or so it seems.

Unfortunately, I don’t have that recall for my vin. I keep driving in tow/haul and it is such a better drive. Does anyone know if I keep driving in tow/haul will I be hurting anything. At least until I get it figured out

I took it to the dealership and I had the downshift recall. It took care of the problem and the truck shifts really well now. I think there was a tune on the truck but they flashed it back to stock I think as it doesn't seem to have the pep it used to. I will trade the smooth shifting for the pep any day.
