Hard folding or rolling bed cover for the short bed?
Hi Guys I have researched till I am blue in the face and need some opinions..
I need a hard cover for the bed of my 2011 f150 that when folded or rolled I can still load a MX dirt bike in the bed..
So if it rolls and the rolls are LOW IE in the bed it wont work because it takes up to much room and the Bike wont fit.
The back flip 2 looks like it would work, but it folds up high and thus I cant see out the window... Can it be easily removed?
the Peragon looks like it would work, but I would have to remove it each time I load the bike as the folds take up room.. How easy is it to remove???
Any input is appreciated and YES I have searched and read and read, but none of the talk to having dirt bikes in the truck.. the bed is JUST long enough to get the bike in as is.. Any longer and It wouldnt work.

BakFlip is fairly easy to remove.
I also had the Extang Solid Fold on my 2010 and it would only fold up to the upper 1/4 of the truck bed, but was easier than the Bak to completely remove. The Bak is DEFINITELY lighter though.
I don't think you could go wrong with either one. I like them both, but prefer my Bak FiberMax for looks. I think the Extang had more functionality. I could stand on it, lay on it, sit on it, and it would hold a ton of weight. Not necessary for everyone, but I used it for this feature. The Bak can't support much weight and I certainly wouldn't try to stand on it.
To add, I've also owned a roll up cover. I will never go back to one. Once you take it off to roll it up, it never fits the same. Go through a couple of seasons with high temps and low temps, the material expands and contrasts. They just don't compare to hard covers in my opinion.

I have the Trifecta, the soft fold version of the Solid Fold. I wanted something that could be easily installed or removed depending on bed use. It works great, no water leaks, and I can remove it in less than a couple minutes (2 screw clamps, 2 spring clamps). If necessary, it can be folded and stowed to only cover 1/3 of the bed, but for me, if I know I will be carrying something that is higher than the rail, I just remove the cover.
I could see where the Bak cover, folded against the cab, could protect the rear glass while loading/unloading the dirt bike. Might be a nice feature. Losing rear view visibility, especially monitoring stuff in the bed, is a downside. I'm not crazy about the drainage system as well. I know it works - I just prefer to keep it simple.
If I had to go to solid top, it would be the Solid Fold for me. The low profile of the Bak covers are cool, but I would prefer the convenience of quick removal or install along with its sturdy build.

if you use your bed for hauling frequently i recommend a rollup. i have the Access Lorado and very satisfied. stores easy and fits tight with tension adjusters. very little flapping at hiway speeds, that what i was concerned about, no worry though.

I have an Extang Trifecta http://extang.com/docs/trifecta.html on my Fx4 screw. This is the second truck it's been on. It's a little over 3 years old and you would never be able to tell (gotta take care of it though). It pretty water tight, good quality, easy to use and can be put on and taken off in literally less than 5 minutes.

Peragon will always get my vote if you are looking for something with that kind of utility and still want to see out the back window. It only takes up about 8-10" of bed space, but if you do need to remove it, 30 seconds and it's out. You only have to disconnect a gas strut on each side and push the release pin on the passenger side rail and it's out.
Take a minute and PM the user peragon. That is Heath, the owner of Peragon, and he will answer any and all questions you might have. They have top notch service and always strive to make their customers as satisfied as possible. Even if you don't end up deciding to go with one, at least PM him and see what he has to say. Can't hurt

My parents previously had a rollup on their F150, I currently have a bakflip.
Comparing the two, I would never buy a rollup. They lost roughly 8" of bedspace with the model they had and it was no where near as watertight as the folding cover I have.
I installed my bakflip the first time in under 30 minutes (rails, drain tubes, cover). I can take the cover off or put it back on in less than 10 minutes now.
I have noticed that if I remove my cover and leave it folded for a period of time, it will start to develop creases in the rubber lining. I'm not sure how this will affect it's ability to keep water out long term, but I also don't plan on taking the cover off that often.

I'm looking at the Pace Edwards Switchblade.
It's a canister made for short beds, that comes right off when you need it to.
ETA: I removed the link until I've read the rules on posting links to vendors who may or may not be supporting vendors here. But in the mean time it's an easy search using your favorite search engine.

You want the same thing I wanted and for the same reason, I went with a BAK RollX and couldn't be happier.
Rolled up plenty of room for a load.
And nice and flat when closed up, only water intrusion is at the bulk head and tail gate and just a dribble when a hard storm or high pressure car wash.
Yes it is a little more expensive than others but for a good reason. Also when rolled up it does not block your rear view like the fold ups do.
I carry a DR650 in mine and the tire clears with ease.
