Halogen or LED off road lights?
I haven't really kept up with the technology, but I always liked KC Daylighters. What will give me a wider and brighter beam path, 3-4 halogens or a couple of LED bars? The thing that turns me off on the LED is the price

LEDs are the cuting edge of lighting technology and are only getting better and more powerful. Over time price will come into line, just like other technologies. Rigid, Baja Designs and Vision X are just some of the companies making cool product right now, with various price points.
Heres a comparison that may illustrate the differences.
A 4" round LED light with 7 5watt LEDS puts out 3500 lumens. This is close to the out put of three name brand 100 watt halogens. The 3 halogens draw 8 amps apiece for a total of a 24 amp draw on your system. The single LED light draws 2.9 amps.
Add to the fact that LED lights can be built to the highest IP ratings (Intrusion) for dust and water resistance. LED lights have no filaments and therefore have high resistance to vibration and shock which allows a very long bulb life. An unlike HID's, there is no start up phase, as the ballast boxes bring the lights up to operating level.
LEDs are not "dumb" lights, meaning that there are advanced circuit boards that control the LEDs and their heat out put as well as "flicker" frequencies. Add to this reflector and optic design technology that controls and provides specific light patterns, and the product cost starts to rise
Do some research and you should be able to find something that fits what are you trying to do, and hopefully your budget.

I'm trying to run desert roads at night and mountain roads without hitting elk and deer. I'd like to get a 30" light bar facing forward and something smaller that points towards the outside of the road.

I wouldn't go with HIDs. If you're like me, you'll want to be using these lights on dark highways at night and will be turning them off for oncoming traffic, just like you do with your hi beams.
It's not good to be constantly turning HIDs on and off.

I am a led fan. Can't break them, they will not kill your battery near as fast As halogens! I have a 30" rigid bar in the front, duallys in my fog holes, and dually diffused in my rear bumper.
Dually flush mount defused.

Do you have any pictures on how you installed the LED lights in the fog light holes?
