I couldn't justify it either , Thats a fricking lot of money for lights ,but I did it anyway.
Before the retros I used silverstar ultras on different trucks ,I never had a problem with them and they gave better light. I would use them again if I ditch the retros.

I tried the silverstars years back and I found they never lasted. My 2013 has HIDs but i did replace the fogs with PIAAs. You can get PIAAs for the fogs and the headlights. I love the PIAAs and I will never go to any other lights. By far the best light!

It kind of scares me that so many people on the road are this blind that the stock lights are not good enough. Maybe instead of high output lights, it might be money better spent on upgrading the ole eyeballs.

You've obviously never driven a vehicle with HIDs then. The stock halogens do suck on these trucks, but I've driven vehicles with worse headlights. You should try seeing the road in my 87 Firebird with the old school sealed beam lights. Plus, I live in an area where a deer could jump out in front of you at any minute. With halogens you can't see the sides of the roads, with HIDs you can.

I'm really close to ordering the retrofit kit from that sit and doing it myself. Thought about getting some of the '13 HIDs but I like the idea of a retrofit better, plus it's cheaper.

EDIT: Oh, and I've spent lots of good money on my eyeballs, and they're perfectly fine. Thanks for the concern though.

Besides the up close intensity, I don't see any further in my wife's 2012 FX35 due to the line cutoff. All I see is just a brighter light directly in front of me that kind of blinds me to far out distances. With my fog lights on in my truck I can see just as much of a side distance as her FX can. I will not, nor will I ever run PnP HIDs in my truck because a) they are illegal and b) more importantly, I don't want to be an unwarranted douche-bag to oncoming motorist. For times when I need to see really far on a deer infested back country road, off road, or to blind someone back that is running illegal PnP Hids I have my Rigid lightbars. Not only does it put out a lot more lumens, but it also allows me to see a lot further than any PnP HID or factory HID projectors ever could. Although I never need that much light in town because my eyes can clearly see what the stock Halos light up really well. My rear lightbar is for times I need extra light backing up, working on something in the back of my truck, or blinding the PnP HID douche-bag behind me that is blinding my rear/side view mirrors.

Get the mini H1 projector kit from TRS. Much cheaper and easier. That's what I plan to do. They are better than stock and may not be as good as the FXr but the ease of install can help you learn and make it easier to attempt the FXr retro in the future.
