Default Which grounds for HID's???

Just put some plug and play bixenons on my truck and im getting alot of radio static on stations that should be crystal clear. For those of you that have done any kind of mods that required grounds under the hood where did you locate your grounds? I used a bolt that was already a ground on the passengers side which is where im assuming the feedback is coming from and the hood open/closed indicator on the drivers side. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That should do it. Only static when the lights are on? I'd check & make sure it's a solid bare metal to bare metal connection & see if that covers it. If not I'd say you have a bad component somewhere. My truck came with hids but I'm an amateur radio operator we fight this sort of thing all the time.

Where do you have your ballasts mounted? How are they mounted?

Yes the static is worse with the lights on as opposed to just running the DTR's. The ballasts are at the front corners of where the fenders attach to the front clip just infront of the airbox and battery, would that cause static on my radio? Also now that I think back i put the drivers side ground on the open/closed hood indicator and the passenger side on a existing factory ground

relocating can help too depending on how bad it is, which is what Nasty is suggesting. keeping them out of the engine bay area seems to help. you are definitely having issues with electro magnetic interference. try to use existing grounding points on the frame & make sure there's no paint between in the connections. also, you'll think I'm nuts for this but try covering the ballast & even the wire with some tin foil to see if that helps. if it does then you'll need to install shielding. some of these kits are made on the cheap. lots of electronics are made without it to save cost & time. this is why I don't buy any electronics from a particular "mart" as they work on the suppliers to squeeze the prices down & why their tv model numbers don't always match up with other stores selling the same brand tv with virtually identical features... sorry I don't mean to pick on you or your kit / go off on a tangent, but this is a problem people don't realize they have or will run into doing mods or buying electronics of questionable quality, it's really easy to do (it happened to me buying an iPhone 5 cable!)

hopefully you get something figured out. will be trial & error tho. if it's shielding, here's some stuff to use as the permanent solution: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...=7234470&rt=c3

Ok thanks kmac, like you said it will be trial and error. The static isnt unbearable just stations based 100km away that used to come in clear dont anymore. The local stations still work well

Use 3M VHB or just regular automotive 3M double sided tape and mount the ballasts to the inside side of the headlight housings.
