Grease down side...

Yikes.
I had just clicked over 1000 miles on the new truck: 2WD, Crew, 4.6 3V.
We took it on a 1500 mile trip, covered it in two days, 70-75 mph max.

A few days after I arrived, I washed the truck and noticed there was grease on the rockers, both sides. I did not find significant grease on the wheels themselves.

At first, I wrote it off thinking I drove through it..but now I'm getting concerned that perhaps it came out of the front wheel bearings.

Anyone else seen this? I was going to have a local dealer change the oil and check the front bearings..but ran out of time with all the running around seeing the family.

BTW..no it is NOT tar. It is axle grease for sure.

I am at almost 6000 and have never had anything like that on my truck. If you ran through something then the pattern would be like that of a mud splash. If it is coming from the truck that pattern would be different. I would also wash it up and then drive it 200-300 without washing it, and see what happens.

Thank God for warranties....

Can you tell where its coming from?

Wheel bearings are sealed units, not much grease would fly out, if any.
Chances are you splattered the grease dropped from other, larger trucks.

It came from the wheel/tire area..but the more I looked at it last night, I think I ran through it on the road (tire threw it on truck)
We are leaving tomorrow for the return trip..I plan to keep an eye on it.

Thanks all.
