a quote from castrol's website

"Switching from a 10W–30 to a 5W–30 during the winter months might be required if the vehicle is operated in an area that typically sees the thermometer dip below the zero mark"

This holds true for older engines, not with today's new tight tolerances. If the oil takes to long to get into bearings, well we all know what happens then.

This applies to an engine that takes 10w-30.

Called a local dealer. Was told ok to drive with 4 quarts but keep below 1500 RPMs and would be fine.

You just put yourself on report for being unable to read. Where did I state anything about what I did? Oh, that's right. I didn't.

I wouldn't drive it. Why risk it. My 5.4 holds 7 quarts. And I would only drive it if the oil is between the marks on the dip stick. Get a neighbor to take you to the store.

Friend came by and got me. Picked up another 5 Quart container from Wally World. All is well. I decided not to be a guinea pig of using 10W30 or driving low.

yes clearly you must run what ford put in the manual or it will catastrophically self destruct and take out 5 city blocks.

new engines eh? well that's the new 5.0 for you, both boss and regular gt flavors in a fairly comprehensive oil analysis listing for different brands and weights.
