Okay, I had to see how this grab handle was put together. First thing, the pillar is reinforced.

The 2 screws that mount it are very small and pulling on that grab handle will be pulling on those screws at a 90 degree angle. I surely would not bet my life on those 2 screws, but all the "Ford can do no wrong people" can draw their own conclusions. I for one will warn anyone getting into my truck that is 200 lbs plus not to rely on that grab handle to pull themselves in.

I'll bet those 2 little screws could easily support 500 lbs or more...

My 435 lb buddy put it to the test already and it's still rock solid.

Those two little screws are more than sufficient. You must be doing something wrong with how you think. thanks

With only 7mm screws holding it in place into sheet metal, how secure can it be?

But hey, let me know when you fall on your a**ss.
This made me ROFL!!!!

Those two machine screws into tapped sheet metal will be more than enough for a grab handle. If yours are stripped then you have an installation issue, not a design issue. I would take it to ford and have them fix it if it's under warranty.

Going to a larger self tapping screw will not give you the same strength as a properly tapped machine screw.

You could also re-tap it with a new larger tap and use a slightly larger machine screw.

Those are more than strong enough. You say they will break at 200 lbs? Are you hanging from them? You have to figure your foot is going to be on something, that is where a majority of your weight is. I would be worried if they would break at 20 lbs, but 200 is more than enough. I would have no issue trusting those to hold up.
