Default Grab Handle is Worthless!

Okay, I'm cleaning the inside of the front windshield and noticed the passenger side grab handle is very loose.

So I pop the covers off thinking I will tighten the bolts, first thing I notice is that it is held on with 2 little screws. I used a 7mm socket and both screws are stripped.

Two tiny screws into sheet metal...My 135 lb wife can't get in and out of this thing without breaking the grab handle. What happens when someone big grabs that thing? That thing is going to snap off in their hand and they will end up on their a*ss!

Probably self-tapping screws at that!

More than likely, you didn't strip the threads, the installer did. (That's why it was loose)

Bigger diameter sheet metal screws would probably fix it.

I would have taken it to the dealer if it's still under warranty.

Dang...one would think that handle would have some safety code in needs to meet. I'm glad I read this, because I was recently helping my 80 year old mother into the truck and she was relying HEAVILY on that handle. Had it let loose there's no telling what might have happened

Yeah, that sucks.

Chairs and handles like this should be designed to handle the maximum load of at least a 300lb person.

I always thought that grab handles were reinforced somehow.

Has anyone had these off yet, to give some advice on just how these are constructed. I'd like to know before taking it to the dealer.

I was thinking more like 500lbs. I have some friends that are close to 300lbs.

My 435 pound friend all but does a one arm chin-up on that handle every time he gets in.

I just assumed it was well connected...
