DEF and other emission stuff is why we (well the company I work for) rebuild old pre-emissions trucks rather than buying new. It's actually more money to do it since they're pretty much new when done, but it still makes sense for the simpler and more reliable engines. These are mostly off-road heavy duty haul trucks mind you, but they'd still be road worthy if we wanted them to be.
I think the gliders are close to being a thing of the past though?

Nice truck! Couple weeks ago I saw a 2017 F-350 Platinum hauling *** around my house. He was swerving all over tailgating cars, intimidating little sedans. I sped up and catched up to him and he had it with a 4 inch lift with American Forces, man did I fall in love. It was a dark blue with no chrome, all of the trim was black, even the platinum tailgate trim. Really nice truck. Have also seen some nice 2017 F-250. They look mean lifted with some wide rims and tires.
