Default Got my new f150... Some issues :(

I got my Blue Flame FX4 one week ago. I picked it up and noticed an arc like scratch in the clear lens in front of the gauges where the guys cleaned it. I also noticed the funnel for the putting gas in the truck was missing. The funnel was no big deal, parts department had one in stock. My main concern is the scratch in the dash. Its very noticeable in some light and in others you can barley see it at all. I don't want them to take half the dash apart just to change this lens and the truck to have rattles and sqeeks down the road. I hate that stuff. Any suggestions? A couple of other things I noticed: The four small gauges for fuel, engine temp, etc.. over the main gauges. I noticed the back light for the two middle ones reflect inside the dash. Almost like the two needles are not on tight enough to keep the light from escaping. The outside two gauge lights are perfect and contained within the needle. Weird! Anybody else experience this? Another thing I noticed is that when I'm driving down the road, I have the steering wheel off center to keep the truck going straight down the road. I thought maybe it was the crown of the road. When I got home, I turned the wheel off center before I parked and shut the truck off. When I got out, I noticed that the front wheels were perfectly straight and the steering wheel is off center. Is this a wheel alignment issue or part of the electric assisted steering? Any ideas? Thanks Everyone.

The instrument cluster lens is part of the cluster. If the lens is damaged the dealer will replace the entire instrument cluster in about 20 minutes.

If the scratch dies not catch your fingernail you may be able to use a plastic polish and restorer made by Mother's. Even if it does not work there it is great for headlight lens, etc.

Ford would probably replace the whole instrument cluster instead of trying to fix it if you can get them to do it. As for the steering wheel, the sooner you take it in the better. If its not off too far its probably just an alingment issue but ford may have to hook a scanner to it to re-learn the correct centered position. I would let them know right away so they don't try to make it your fault.

Of all of these issues noted, the only one that would really concern me is the offset wheel. I'd have that checked out ASAP. The other stuff, just take it in and have them replace it. Otherwise, this will annoy the ***** out of you every day you drive it. It's your truck and your warranty -- use it.

I've never had a new car/truck where the steering was perfect. I always have to play with the toe adjustment to get it just right.

The tie rod adjustments are easy, just make sure you rotate the nuts on both ends exactly the same amount to keep them straight.

Does the wheel position respond to toe since its drive by wire? I always wondered about this.

Exclamation

My clock and radio display clear plastic cover was scratched by the dealer as well.

There *WAS* a clear plastic piece of peel-off tape on the display in other trucks on the lot, so i guess the person at the dealer who "detailed" the truck on delivery seen a need to pull the protective tape off and clean it with a scratchy rag anyway. Noticeable only at a certain angle.

I did mention it to the dealer, bu they said there was nothing they could do about it, since it probably wasn't a "factory defect".

I voiced my opinons about "if its not dirty, don't clean it" to the dealer manager.

Take it to the dealer and get it replaced. This is a big deal to the speedo manufacturer and they will want to know.

I temped at a Denso plant one summer back in the 90s. It was a instrument cluster plant that produced for Toyota, Dodge/Chrysler, Olds, and Honda. One Monday I show up for work and everyone on the line was in a bad mood. It turns out that Toyota had returned a single cluster that had a small scratch on an indicator needle. Management called the line crew from that production in and they spent an entire Saturday rerunning every cluster in warehouse inventory for that model car through QC again - something like 4,000 meters.

So, take it back and get it fixed right. The manufacturers are holding their suppliers accountable for quality. Besides that, you'll be pissed every time you see it. The first scratch should be your fault.

You bought a 40-50,000 truck with a warranty. Make them make it right.

Nearly all new vehicles have bugs. The dealer is supposed to be there for you, the customer.
