Default Trailer Sway Control questions

I have a few questions about the built in trailer sway control.

1. Has anyone tested to confirm that when on the freeway without a trailer, the sway control features are still active even though we don't feel it and the result is reduced MPG's? If so, does anyone have any idea what the difference in MPG's would be?

2. Is there a way to leave this feature disabled until I want to turn it on? It seems like when I turn it off, it comes right back on again by itself the next time I cycle the key

3. If you have a quality trailer sway control device, should you still use the electronic version in conjunction or is it safer to use one or the other but not both (sometimes, 2 systems set up to do the same thing can actually work against each other and do more harm than good)?

Thanks

Answer for questions 1 and 2. My understanding is that it does not turn on until you have a 7 pin connector plugged in with the trailer attached to the vehicle.

I use a trailer sway control bar and have never had the truck sway control kick in yet (that I know of), even in windy conditions.

That would be good. The settings menu is deceiving because it just says "on" regardless of whether or not a trailer is connected.

I'm interested in this as well. I asked the dealership to explain to me what trailer sway control was but no one had a clue.

7 pin is not needed. I had my boat on with just a flat-4 connection and was messing around on an empty road. You WILL know when the sway is activated, for sure.

I found this on the web. Its not very detailed but it gives you the basics in broad strokes.

Thanks for the link! I'm not so sure I want my truck asymmetrically Braking unless I'm pulling a big load.

SNDSL6R is right on . If truck detects a sway it will correct it.This system, like stability control may save your life.

I turned mine off (without a trailer) to test the theory of more mpg's. I found it made no difference.
