Going from 20" to 19" or maybe 18"
Good day gents,
I'm planning down the road to change out my stock 20" to a smaller size rim with bigger tires, been reading all the size I could try out, and I want to see if anyone had some experience on the ride comfort on this change? I'm also not planning to lift the truck if thats possible, just want a different rim and a beefy looking tires to change out the stock look.
I feel the stock setup (2013 FX4 EB Apperance package) is a bit too rough on bumpy road, and I'm not an off road guy, so I want to see if this could be an ideal change. please let me know your thoughts?
Thanks

I went from 18s on my 2010 lariat to 20s on my 2013 platinum. I prefer the 18s, I think they ride smoother and I actually think the look more suited to the truck. A big truck with low profile tires just doesn't look right to me. If 18s or 19s were a factory option on the platinum I would have done it. And a main reason why I didn't get the limited...those 22s are just ridiculous. No offense.

Had 17 and 20 now 18s. I prefer the ride on the 18s over all other, I do a lot of hunting and fishing in the back woods and the 18s have been great.

Big thanks on the review guys! I personally do think the 18" would ride better, 20" is also bit harsh on the suspension, our city are famous for stupid pud holes on the roads, so bigger tires with small rims would help alot!!!

Even if you keep the same size diameter tire, the smaller the rim/wheel, the smoother the ride. This is due to a taller sidewall. Also larger wheels are harder to accelerate and brake. This is due to moving more weight out away from the hub. A shorter sidewall will have less squirm from a heavy load or trailering and will handle better.
I have 18s on my truck and they ride very nice. I wanted the 17" wheels but the truck I bought had the 18s.
You should consider 17s or 18s. Also check prices and availability of the tires you want in both sizes. One size may not have what you want and/or they may be a lot more expensive.
