Seriously, has anyone actually been able to connect both a phone and tablet to Sync bluetooth simultaneously? It's not just an iPhone thing, I have an older Motorola phone that's been paired with Sync as the primary phone for over a year now and it works perfectly every time, unless I try to connect another device.
Sync recognizes my tablet just fine and allowed me to pair it, but the only way it will actually connect is if I select it in the Sync menu, at which point the phone disconnects. Then I select connect to phone and the tablet disconnects.

I'd be fine just using USB for audio from the tablet, but then there's the problem that Sync USB doesn't provide enough amperage to charge a tablet properly...

Well, yes my phone and tablet are both 'connected'. You can only use one BT device at a time.*

I didn't say it was absolutely a iphone issue, i just stated, i've seen a lot of ppl w/ iphones complaining about the tablet/phone sync connectivity.

* What i mean by this: Pair both the phone and tablet to sync. set the phone as primary, tablet will not be able to be set to primary anyways. Next transfer your contacts and allow it (if applicable). Now for your tablet to work, You must select the source from the sync menu, then it should play music etc. ( if your tablet is rooted and modifyied to act like a phone...that would cause sync to get confused and prob will not try to connect to the real phone, just an fyi)
Now, the way the system should work: if the tablet is on/connected to BT, then the phone should be in a sort-of 'standby' state. If you physically click the 'phone' button on the dash/steering wheel it should pause the music, connect to the phone, and then do what you have to do. then you'll have to go back into sync (or voice command) and go back to BT audio. (I recommend disabling BT audio if your phone supports this as it may cause problems with which device get get reconnected.)
If the tablet is on/connected, playing music etc.. and the BT on the phone is set on. if you receive a call, the phone should auto connect to sync, if not in the 'stand-by state' then sync will pause the music, ring the phone. Once answered, it will stay on the phone. After the call ends, it will change the source back to the tablet.

This is how it works for me, and I can probably say most people?. However i have an android tablet, and android phone. I have not played around with any other devices/phones. ** actually my sisters iphone was connected at some point via usb? i think and she got a call and i think call audio went through i can't be sure as it was a road trip and i was asleep/woke up from the call and didn't pay attention too much to it. but most likely the tablet wasn't connected when she was driving.

Which phone model do you have? Is sync up to date (2011 it should be ?) When you say the phone is disconnected, what do you mean by this? -an icon on the phone displays a 'not connected' icon, or does sync say not connected?

Might finally have time to get around to this project this weekend.

You need some extra wires and plugs to move the factory radio buttons and keep them operational right? Anyone got a link for whats needed for that?

If your comfortable with soldering, i would say just use a cat5 cable and solder/heatshrink the wires together.

Sweet, got lots of cat5 cables laying around. I probably won't bother with soldering and heat shrink wrapping it all though.

I,d deff consider twisting-soldering them, this way they have a good-strong connection, the wires are pretty small. Theres only a little bit of slack idk if a butt connector would be reliable.

You guys had that much slack? When i tried to get more slack, and traced the wires, it seemed like at some point they go separate ways and i couldn't get any more.
