If you put bigger tires on it will return your RPMs back to where it was stock and generally give you stock like charateristics.

If you want to off road it, you put in higer gear set to get more tourque for crawling.

So I have the 3:73 and I've got 35" mud terrains and I mud it and trail ride .. Then boosting to 4:56 would help me out or give me a better feedback? Or what gear ratios are best for that kind of stuff?

Yes, there are calculators out there to help you determine this sort of stuff.

http://www.offroaders.com/tech/gear-ratio-chart.htm

Here is one, you could also look at the site for randys ring and pinion.

Its not for crawling, if u go from stock tires to 35 or 37's putting 4.56's just corrects your gearing. I have 4.56's with 35's and at 70mph im at 2100 rpm

So I've figured out which gear ratio I'd want and all that but when I'm looking on say yukongear.com I'm having trouble finding what exactly I should be. I'm looking at ring and pinion sets for a ford 8.8" -31 spline ... I've found a YG F8.8-488 .... Is that 488 at the end the gear ratio? Because the one right before it said 456

While we're on this topic, what would it take to change the gear let's say from 3.55 (mine) to 3.73 on a 2011 FX2?

What ballpark cost would be involved to make all the necessary changes?

I assume the computer has to be updated after the gears are changed?

Any transmission work needed?

Lastly, I'm assuming that any warranty would be voided if I made the change?
