Gear swap on 4x4 Ecoboost
Need some advice on a gear swap for my 3.31 4x4 EB. I have the stock 20" wheels but planning on adding a 2" level and 33 or 34" tires. What would be the optimal new gear ratio for this? I don't do much towing, mostly just hwy to work driving. What cost would I expect from a dealer install, and will this effect my warranty? Is there any new programming that will need to be done?

It wont be cheap with a 4x4. Keep in mind you need to swap the gears in the front and rear. Then i guess it's just a reprogram to get the speedometer accurate again. It shouldn't void warranty if you have a Ford dealer do the work.I'm guessing $1500-$2000 if you bring to the dealer though. I would leave it alone, the torque of the Eco will have no problem turning 33"-34" tires even with 3.31 gears. But you will definitely feel it in the mpg department.

My 3.31, 305/65/18 eco has a lifetime average of 14mpg with screw 6.5 bed 4x4 with a leadfoot. Runs great, fries tires at will, and has towed 6k+, and cannot complain. No gear hunting, just smooth linear power. If I had intentions of towing more or frequently higher gears would have been appropriate, but I want to play on the strip with it, and in the end I feel the 3.31 will work good in time....

It won't be cheap. I had a quote of 1800.00 from 3 different dealers. I have a 2 wheel drive. So 4 wheel would be considerably more. Front and rear have to match.

You really aren't going up in size by much at all...I say just do the level and tires and determine if theres a need to re-gear after. I would say you probably won't need to.
