Default Gas Tank Door spring busted

Hi all!
Looks like my gas tank door spring busted.
Is that an easy replacement? Any way to fix it? It won't close completely anymore.
Thanks for any help!

Repair procedure at the end of this thread.
Fairly common problem.

Bookmarked. Dealer said it was an extremely common problem. He said it was caused by just letting the door slam closed. duno if it was true or not, but worth the small change in behavior just in case. He said it was a pain to fix such a cheap part.

I actually just fixed mine today. I had the same problem.

I followed this link: http://www.f150online.com/forums/200...ng-repair.html

I had a bit of trouble getting to the top clip. So I ended up sliding a straight slot screw driver wrapped in electrical tape to pop it open and it worked fine. I also used a bit of white lithium Grease on the pin to help it move free.

Thanks guys!
Will try the warranty route first - hopefully they'll cover it. If not - then I'll follow the instructions.

Warranty will cover it but the fix will still be the same so next time around you maybe doing it yourself.

I removed mine, drilled a tiny hole in the hinge pin, installed a stainless steel washer and stainless steel cotter pin and should be set for the life of the vehicle.
